Official Game Thread: Oklahoma State vs. Iowa State

Unfortunately a lifetime contract is indeed... a lifetime contract. If OSU could just make it not, then there wouldn't be a point. OSU's built-in 'out' is the buyout clause. This has bitten other schools too... This is why Iowa is also stuck with Kirk Ferentz for eternity despite mediocrity. A BUNCH of schools have done this with basketball, with varying degrees of success.

The Kentucky state legislature has gotten involved to try to undo it for Kentucky basketball.

A fan's hope is that if a coach actually cares about a school, the program, and it's fans, that he'd see the writing on the wall and undo it themselves. But the school cannot.
Gundy does not have a "lifetime" contract. It's a five year deal with an automatic one-year rollover in January of each year, unless one party notifies the other of their desire to not rollover. At that time, it would be a four year contract.

Btw, Kirk Ferentz signed a contract extension in 2022, which carries him until 2030. He does not have any kind of rollover deal. He is still the coach at Iowa, because much like Gundy, he is the school's all-time wins leader and has been to 19 bowl games. Although, also like Gundy, fans' patience with him is running pretty thin.

Crazy that OSU can't come up with money to buy 1 football coach out, while I'm pretty sure Nebraska is currently paying 5.
90k people versus 50k, 6-7 times per year, for decades can do that. And that’s generous as we’ve not carried 50k per home game very long compared to their 85-90k.

Hell damn near 100k showed up for a volleyball game. Not sure we have 100k total fans all sorts combined.

Nebraska fan base is very large. Beyond what their stadium can carry.

According to Opendorse (who manages most schools NIL) Nebraska is second only to Texas in accumulated NIL funds.

We have a lot of apples and oranges fans these days. I get the frustration, I really do, but we’re not going to go be Nebraska, Texas, A$M, ou, Ohio State, Michigan etc. And we make it worse when our fans do respond positively and show up and the team lays eggs. (All four men’s major sports teams have been woefully guilty of this for years.) That’s a different conversation though.

Offensive Game Notes
- Said that the playcalling after the INT, then a defensive stop, and three straight runs leading to a 3 and out was the worst series of playcalling all season.
- Bowman was pressured 38% of the time.
- Cooper was a big upgrade at LT and at times was manhandling the DE at times.
- Michalski was ok blocking, but snaps continue to be an issue. High and off to the side. It is throwing off the timing of plays.
- ISU is nowhere as good on DL as they have been the last few years.
- Run game was better, but that is relative. It is still not great outside of a couple plays. Feels like they are one or two good blocks away from finding consistent success.
- Collins only got 4% of the snaps at RB., Nixon got 7%. Lots of slips in the RB block game. Nixon missed a lot of holes and was indecisive. Also had the good long touchdown.
- Collins should have more carries than Nixon due to that.
- Gordon bounced from inside run to outside well several times.
- Bowman did a good job of moving the defense with his eyes during mesh plays. C+/B- performance. Don't think the other QB's would have played as well. Did a good job of distributing the ball.
- Thinks that Bowman will get the shot against KState. Thought he looked way better than lil Gundy did against USA and that Rangel has been screwed over with this whole scenario.
- Receivers: Blaine Green 6 catches for 58 yards and had some great blocks. Best blocking WR on the team. The bad--he brought 2 defenders over to Josiah Johnson on Bowman's first pick.
- Jayden Bray is good on the curl routes. Feels like Dunn's scheme
- Stribling was torching Purchase on several plays. Only caught 3 of 10 balls due to some of Bowman's misthrows.
- Shettron and Owens didn't get a ton of snaps.
- Pressley needs the ball more. 3 touches are far too few. Need a lot more creativity here.
- Only 7 snaps all game for FB's
- Josiah Johnson has blocked really well against ISU. Has really come on well as of late.

Defensive Game Notes
- First question--what are we doing defensively with ISU? Called it a 3 QB equivalent game plan. Stacked the box against a bad running team, so they got carved through the air. It was a numbers advantage for them in the secondary.
- Feels like we were scheming too much for them, instead of making ISU scheme to beat our defense.
- They think Rocco Becht will be good eventually, but we gave him an out.
- Secondary got exsposed. Rucker got beat playing field safety, which is outside Epps was also targeted quite a bit.
- Thought our 3 man front held the line pretty well and didn't need extra people in the box.
- Got 12 hurries on Becht and blitzed a good amount, but had busts in man coverage and could not get him on the ground.
- 2nd game in a row the slot receiver has gone off. OKST needs to figure something out with it. Thinks other teams on our schedule are going to continue to pick on us there. Safety has been exposed.
- Goodlow was great, was dominant in his position. Went after the center a number of times really well.
- Latu was almost unblockable by the ISU offensive line. Their line was not good.
- Xavier Ross had his worst game. Was washed out a few times, got beat badly on a touchdown.
- NT's were great. Demanded a double team most of the game. Kirkland got a TFL and almost got a sack, knocked Norton out of the game also. - Clay had a better game in ISU, got more snaps than Kirkland. Had some QB hurries.
- Nick Martin and Collin Oliver were awesome. Very rarely were washed out of the play. Oliver was lucky to not be tossed out of the game for clear targeting. Martin did not miss a tackle. Oliver had one missed tackle--is looking super natural. His ability to cover is getting better. Benson made a couple plays, set the edge a couple times in the first quarter. Not always around the play, wonder what he is doing.
- DBs: Got destroyed. Allowed a sub-par QB to carve them up. That being said, Korie Black played 97% of the snaps. No targets toward him all game. He completely shut down their WR all game. Cam Smith had a rough game for his first start. Several missed assignments, bad angles on run plays. Rawls, got a not serious lower body injury--he should be back for KState. 3 games in a row with a bust in the secondary for a TD. That has got to change.
- DJ McKinney had a missed pick 6 because he didn't look up, also got beat a few spots. Field safety is a hard position in this defense. Kendall -- -- Daniels was out of position in pass coverage, but was quicker to respond than in previous games.
- Don't think we have the guys right now. Rucker has not been good.
- Need to be looking for people in the portal during and after the season to get more safeties if we are going to commit to the 3-3-5.

Optimistic that we will win some games, but the next couple will be difficult and the 3 QB situation really set us back. Will take a 5-3 finish to hit the season over.
