Official Game Thread: [Homecoming] Arizona State vs. Oklahoma State

It is all about the money leads me to believe that we might have players betting on games and purposely failing to perform for the benefit of their bank accounts.
I think it is just more that they have their monthly NIL checks coming in, they are going through the motions saying the right things to get paid, but not giving much effort otherwise. There are definitely some exceptions to that, like Brennan and Ollie. And several are claiming injury to sit out practice during the week and just playing on Saturday. I think that’s why you see a spark from young guys when they get in as they are actually trying to prove themselves.

In terms of total defense under Bill Young during his three seasons, Pokes were ranked nationally 34th (329yds/game), 91st (413yds/game, 107th (445yds/game)

Guess we disagree on the definition of very good DC.
Did you include 2012 his final year? I believe he was here for four seasons (2009-2012) and we averaged giving up 427 yards per game that particular season!

This will only get worse until there's a direct financial tie to performance.
Which leads me to believe why you see the guys with a chance in the NFL trying and the ones who are not just coasting…. This makes me think we see a lot of teams losing games they shouldn’t going forward

Kendall Daniels would be in the NFL if he tried. His body type and speed alone would get him a look. But he doesn't provide any effort beyond a few plays per game.

He's done great things for the program, but he's mailing it in now--that much is obvious. We're wasting money and resources on a guy that has checked out at the worst possible time. First year of the new B12, and we're everyone's gimme. Does anyone really believe he's gong to make the changes necessary at this stage of his career to return the program to prominence? OSU has made him filthy rich and he'll soon have a statue, but I don't believe he's owed anything more. At this point, he's dragging the brand down. Next year will be more of the same or worse because we're losing everybody. I feel bad for the seniors and guys who've stuck it out. They deserve to finish their careers in a much better way than this.

Sadly, I see the same attitude in Shettron. He doesn’t have the “go get the ball” attitude that Blackmon, Bryant, Washington or Wallace had.

To me, it feels like frustrations have carried over from coach’s decisions. It’s not just “Bowman is our starter” it’s all the BS he says about the backups and that “he’s just a freshmen he’s not ready” or “he hasn’t gotten as many reps” rhetoric. Players know this is complete utter crap out of his mouth and they lose respect. Ask any WR on the roster and they will tell you Rangel had a little more experience but Flores was more than able. Nope he capped them all and pissed them off. You can see it in their body language. When’s the last time you saw Rashod or Stribling high five Bowman? They don’t. He shouldn’t be the QB. He should’ve been an experienced back up insurance plan. Gunnar wasting a spot when he was a D2 QB at best disrupted recruiting and development. Players can see this crap over their careers and continue to listen to the venom of lies their head coach spews weekly. It’s unreal how one terrible QB is going to cost Ollie, Brennan, and Stribling so much money. That falls on Gundy & his lies.

As for the defense, when you get teammates and leaders hurt it will mess with your mind & schemes. Thinking too much, complicated packages, guys playing new positions, etc can play a big part. I honestly don’t know what’s up with the defense. I think you need a powerful voice on that side of the ball and a weak presence of a d2 coordinator doesn’t instill confidence in me that’s what we have. More of an uncle figure.

IMO we surprised many teams with some pulling linemen and Ollie being unknown last yr and caught lightning in a bottle. Bedlam win doesn’t look so pretty now lol. This year, Teams solved our vanilla blocking pulling schemes and took Ollie out early in the yr.

Big question is where do we start in fixing this? Does this all come down to a below avg QB? It shouldn’t. Being last in defense is unacceptable and embarrassing! This feels very John Smith-esque. Staying around too long until damage has been done. I saw in X, a group maybe associated with PWAP tried raising $600k to buy 6 OL and Gundy shot it down saying it would disrupt the locker room. Hey dumbazz, losing disrupts the locker room and entire fan base

Gundy is punishing us for Gunter not being the starter. We are stuck in Bowman/Rangel world because the fans didn’t clamor for Gunter

This is a long way of saying he’s lost the locker room. That is an insta-firing in the NFL (outside of Dallas) or a serious college program.

Those 5th and 6th year players got their NIL money and got complacent. OL looks old and lethargic. Looks like they’ve been on a smoke break all since the offseason. Same with the DL.

And has not been recognized by the coaching staff. Not corrected or replaced by younger players.
