Official Game Thread: Oklahoma State vs. Colorado

I also listened to Gundy with RA...

Said the portal was his fault, he didn't want to fork over cash to new guys who had not proved themselves. That let to a lack of depth. Said he's accepted that he just has to do that going forward.

What a moron

It took the worst team in his tenure and maybe in Cowboy football history to make him realize this. Good I guess???

My opinion:

The quarterback that can get OSU back to some semblance of respectability isn't currently on campus. We need more than a flash from Rangel and a good game against Texas Tech.

If they were stepping in to run an offensive machine, that would be different. We need a guy can that make plays and take care of the ball. If we go with one of the three guys we have, we're just hoping.

We don’t really know what we have in Flores.

Feels like we’re in need of a lot more than that, we have a coach who’s never shown much adaptability to a new QB.

You should be very appreciative of that’?

Fn moron that can’t help himself.

You just presided over a winless conference season, deal with the friendliest media anywhere, and you have the nerve/cluelessness to say that?

Put the shovel down idiot. You’re your own worst enemy at this point. Shut up and get the f to work.
packing your shit!

A lot more, no doubt. But you better have a good QB to start with.
You can't keep throwing young QB's under the bus. I love what I've seen in Smith. To be honest, I think he is as good or better than Rudolph was as a frosh. He's got good size and speed. I think he's got more upside than Rudolph. If we keep giving up on these guys for "instant gratification" then we will continue to be spotty at best.

The OSU program needs someone to be instant. That's the game now.

If I'm Gundy, and my job may be on the line, I'm going to find the best QB I can. OSUs best teams had great QB play, which of course makes sense.

I don't see a lot of wins here with an average offense

Kinda depends on what you mean by back to respectability. If it’s a guy that can get us back to 7-8 wins(bowl games), I think we aren’t that far off offensively and a couple of guys could do that. If you are talking B12 championship, playoff contention, not sure either.

I know after today it is probably crazy but I’m still pretty high on Smith. He came in and performed well in 3 of 4 games, looked poised as a true freshman, strong arm, good running ability, and had very limited practice time. An offseason now with these valuable reps, and now running with 1s and 2s will be huge for him. Today was crazy with no attempt at all to run the ball.

The obvious question is who’s coaching him to develop? Feel good about that part? I don’t.

Well, with competent coaching, I think Smith can get us there. Big upside. We don't even know about Flores. I'd love to have Smith as a four year starter. I think he's going to be really freaking good.

I listened to former Cowboy Robert Jones on the Animal's postgame. Rodney Fields played for him at Del City last year.

He said "this team takes on the personality of their coach."

Talked about his lack of emotion and passion.

"A lot of current players are worried about the future of this team."

"They practice terrible and then they hear him say they had a good week."

"His voice isn't meaning anything to them."

A lot more on that theme. He mentioned he texted Fied's uncle on the way back from Boulder.

Wonder if Gundy will have exit interviews with players or just assume they'll come back?
This info is the root cause of our problems IMO. The dude just doesn't care that much about winning. He not only accepts mediocrity, he fully embraces mediocrity as his core philosophy, and has ever since he stopped pursuing bigtime recruits and legitimate coordinators. He's a defeatist, which is the exact opposite of what you want from a D1 head football coach, especially a guy making top 15 money nationally.

Everything else is a trickle down from that.

Couple that approach with his attitude towards the media and fans, and it really makes me question what our AD and school administration are doing. Are they asleep at the wheel? Are they also defeatists that embrace mediocrity? Do they think his antics are cute?

Plug and play QB's in the era of college football need a big NIL pocketbook. Not sure OSU has that. Watching Georgia vs Ga Tech game last night you can see what really good coaching can do against really good talent.

If I'm Gundy, and my job was on the line, and I cared about winning, OSU, and the fans, I'd take a $2mil/yr pay cut, and buy the best coordinators I could get and promise them whatever autonomy they require to succeed. Then I'm evaluating everything on the recruiting side including NIL, transfer, and high school recruiting to see how we can improve. Then I'm sitting down with each player on the team to ask what their goals are and give each of them a plan on how OSU is gonna help them achieve those goals, or help them find a good spot elsewhere that they can continue pursuing them if not at OSU. Then I'm asking the PR and marketing teams to help me craft a new image of a coach that cares about the current and future state of OSU football, including the fans, and working on myself to be a better CEO / figurehead for the program. Then I'm gonna relentlessly pursue perfection up, down, and across the board in the entire organization, because I believe that approach wins games and brings in money. Then I'm gonna tell the donors and fans that I understand their frustrations, and will prove to them that I can right the ship, and will commit to being better.

Alas... None of that will happen.
