Official Game Thread: Oklahoma State vs. Oregon

The no. 1 problem with firing Gundy is just who the heck are you going to replace him with? I doubt anybody of high quality wants to come to Stillwater with a failed program to contend with.
This is an old, tired argument. There’s about 7M reasons why you can attract a high quality coach. Now if you only consider guys like Ryan Day, Dan Lanning and Kirby Smart as acceptable, you are going to be disappointed.

This x1000, absolutely insane mindset, which is part of the reason why we are where we are today, to think we can’t replace a coach who gets embarrassed on national tv multiple times a year with one of the hundreds if not thousands of young innovative offensive coordinators or head coaches from a smaller school who would drop everything for a chance to coach at major college football program for probably half of Gundys salary.

Different circumstances, but i

what circumstances do you think the vast majority of coaches are hired under?

The buyout and the ‘who are you going to get’ arguments can generally be made every single time a program is struggling. You can either be proactive and spend in today’s dollars and inject new momentum and interest in the program, fanbase and revenue streams, or sit by for another year while that diminishes.

You think a Matt Campbell at Toledo, or a Kenny Dillingham wouldn’t be interested if given the opportunity? The landscape has changed dramatically and you need an AD & Head Coach who embrace it and want to excel, not a dinosaur who’s still bitching about the way things used to be.

We’re now 0-10 against our last 10 FCS opponents and utterly irrelevant when people are discussing our second tier conference. That’s an amazing fall from days of fighting for a Big 12 South with 5 ranked teams in it. Our competition has gotten worse and we’ve gone down to their level, and now at the bottom of this group.

We have a coach who was once regarded as innovative, but is sadly now a guy buying his first flip phone because he’s spent the last 5 years telling himself that cell phones are just a fad and there’s nothing wrong with a landline.

I learned a long time ago that when I'm visiting an opponent's forum it's never good to predict the score. That said, I certainly expected a much closer game. Games like that are tough for the guys on the short end of the score. Wish you guys well going forward.
Great game by the Ducks but here’s some advice, don’t take that game for more than it was, Gundy has a reputation of going into an offensive shell when we have a new quarterback starting, we’ve been boat raced by Kansas, South Alabama, and UCF in similar fashion and none of those teams turned out to be any good, not saying Oregon isn’t good or great but don’t use this game to make your own determination.

The demolishing has prompted A LOT of Gundy talk, not just locally, but several nationally saying he’s done. About the only one defending him was his son on X giving the whole “Gundy is Oklahoma State football” spiel.

Listening to his postgame on radio it was a bunch of the same as years past. He said as coaches they probably put too much on the players this week. Then he went into his typical stuff about the kids needing to stay off the internet because the internet is mean, and fans just need to support the team. I laughed when he said, I get it, fans just want there team to win. Mike, nobody even expected to win, but the throttling we took was beyond belief.

A lot of season left though, maybe this ends up being like the S Alabama game for us. The good news is this was always going to be an L, so doesn’t change the season at all. Not a lot to be optimistic about though with the D looking as bad as it did, and horrendous QB play. Hoping Hauss heals up quickly, maybe by Arizona. After what happened today with the back to back pick 6’s, I can’t even imagine how conservative this offense is going to be.

4 worst losses of Gundy era:

2025 Oregon 69-3
2024 Colorado 52-0
2022 KSU 48-0
2023 UCF 45-3

If he comes back next year, what will it be?
It wasn't a nightmare. We really did get our @$$*$ kicked that bad on national TV.

I hate it, but if that's what it takes to finally get an excellent, young football coach at our school, then so be it.

I would typically agree but not in today’s world. Money solves most problems in today’s CFB. I’m in no way hoping for Gundy to be let go and all of that. But if it does happen, all of these donors better ramp up the NIL $$$ and put their money where their mouth is because if we don’t then you’ll be exactly right.
Maybe someone can confirm this -I heard yesterday that we spent $4M in NIL over the last 4 years while Oregon spent $40m last year alone. I’ve always said NIL will ruin college sports. Not using this as an excuse but that seems to point directly at them AD.

Anytime a game gets out of hand it's difficult to take much away from the game. Clearly, Oregon didn't do a very good job in the first half when it came to illegal motion penalties. That's something to clean up. Also, I'm not sure why Oregon didn't give their #2 QB any reps in the second half, all the reps went to the redshirt.

Who the hell cares. This stupid argument of who will we get oh no doesn’t matter anymore. You either keep hiring and find someone who wants to win or you get barried in irrelevancy with 3 win seasons. You think we can’t do better than that? Is Mike gundy the only solution…. Let’s stop drinking this bottle of rat poison and start working harder because I can promise you he doesn’t care anymore
So, let's stick with Gundy for the rest of the season.

Not too mention that any good coach will have no problem winning in the weak conference. No OU or Texas to face every year.

Thank you for visiting. Hopefully we give you a better game next time. Good luck the rest of the season and no injuries.
