Official Game Thread: [Homecoming] Arizona State vs. Oklahoma State

He's blaming himself instead of throwing his players under the bus. It's coach speech. The the very obvious problems will hopefully be addressed following the conclusion of this season.. I would bet that there will be a mass exodus of Gundy's staff. There will be a new OC, and several other staff members. Hopefully the DC, too.. although I'm not sure Gundy will fire Nardo after one season.

The real problem is recruiting. Gundy has a very lax recruiting policy, in favor of home and family time. I'm not sure if recruiting time is necessary in this horrid era of NIL and easy/mass transfers. It appears Gundy is sticking with recruiting high schoolers, so Gundy's lax recruiting policy will continue bringing in two star and the lowest ranked 3 star will be par the course.

As much as I despise the current madness of college football, Gundy must hit the transfer portal hard. I sure wish Boone was still around.. NIL and bringing in top talent would not be an issue.

I'm really bummed out... I've been a staunch supporter of Gundy. He has engineered a winning streak of 18-19 unbroken winning seasons. That is unbelievable. I understand how my fellow OSU fans feel.. this season has bummed us all out. It's just.. people have so easily proclaimed that Gundy must be fired, yet haven't given him credit for the unbelievable winning streak he's somehow accomplished.

I know people will disagree with me because of how this season is going... But Gundy is an outstanding coach. He's perpetually considered a top 15 best HC year in and year out. We'll never achieve this type of success after Gundy retires. With the exception of this season, OSU fans better enjoy the success while Gundy is still our HC. OSU will never ever be as relevant as Gundy has achieved..

Y'all can hit the negative reactions to this post.. I know it's gonna happen. Just give Gundy some credit for what he's achieved. One bad season simply cannot undo the success he's achieved
I think most people would agree with you on remembering the success and giving him the chance to pivot the program direction as long as he has a clear plan. Complete structure changes are necessary, the “I know what I’m doing”, schtick cannot be accepted going forward.

With the current state of college athletics OSU is in a very precarious position. Winning at football is a MUST. Because there could come a time in the near future where we need to drop other sports. That’s a reality. OSU cannot afford to give Gundy a long leash here, the risk is too great.

And quite frankly, spare me with the “we will never get a great coach again” attitude. That is such a losing mentality. Sure we aren’t going to find a coach who’s an alum that will stay here for 20 years, but that’s not the point. Winning is the point. There is no coach bigger than the program, no matter how significant of a contribution they’ve made. Plenty of hungry coaches out there willing to put the time, effort, and ingenuity to succeed. It’s the AD’s job to find that person.

I can’t understand how we went from playing in the conference championship game one year to going winless in conference the next year with essentially the same players and coaches while two of the more challenging teams left the conference.
Definitely very puzzling.

I’m imagining the motivation dynamics have changed with players making an income. Once the season started going sideways, the players aging out had no incentive. And the ones looking for greener pastures have focused on that instead of the season at hand.

The never getting a great coach again argument is over. I bet we could find one that won’t lose every conference game.

What is wrong with the PFB guy? Seems to me he is the only one that asks direct questions. Him and Scott Wright.

This is supposed to be a big time program. You shouldn’t get upset with difficult questions. Gundy does not deserve soft ball questions right now.
I have some personal interaction with these people back when Porter ran that site and they were VERY DISHONEST THEN!!! maybe things have changed since then but I don't really know this Marshall guy so I have a personal issue with them!!! As far as Fat Robert he is the homer guy!

It doesn't seem that unusual these days as TCU went from playing in the National Championship in 2022 to a four or five win season in 2023! I guess Dykes has them back to at least a 6 win season this year

Headlines “Cam Skattebo accounts for 3 TDs leading ASU over OSU.” Skattebo rushed for 153 yards (almost 7 yards a carry) and caught 4 passes for 121. Oh, and he took his pads off the 4th quarter because the game was out of reach. Everyone knew for a week who was going to get the ball for them and he still accounted for over half of their offense.

And Gundy ends his postgame saying “ I thought we did a pretty good job handling #4 (Skattebo) and getting him to the ground”…SMH.

The strange thing though is that TCU lost all of its players from that team, OSU returned pretty much the entire team.
Look at Kansas, they have the most seniors of any Big XII team, even more than us, and they are 2 - 6 with a team that finished 9-4 last year! I think they have the same problems we do, BAD defense and Daniels is as big a disappointment as Bowman has been!

I think the seniors who don’t have a shot at the NFL have come to the realization that their football careers are over and they just don’t care. They aren’t going to make any more money at it. There is no winning for the sake of team pride anymore. It’s all about the money now. Sad!

KU OC went to Penn State. I think that hurt them a lot. Their play calling is awful.

Haha....#4 had more yards than the OSU offense. Can't even look at that as a glass half full.

I am not a Gundy apologist, but can someone elaborate on how he doesn’t play the portal game? We have portal transfer players and it sounds like limited funds. What exactly should have been done differently in the portal for this years team?
