Please explain to me as I am ignorant but why throw behind the line of scrimmage on 3rd down. This was not 3rd and long but it is our MO to throw behind line of scrimmage on 3rd down and they were ready for it

I guess my bias against Dunn is clouding my thinking but I feel like BYU watched enough of our scouting tape and knew that we seem to throw behind the line of scrimmage on 3rd which is why they didn't bite on the play action. I guess I really am too negative thinking
