Official Game Thread: Oklahoma State vs. Texas

Really, really disappointed in the staff in this game. The players were fighting for them, and they simply waved a white flag.
This! That is where my disappointment is. The coaching staff got completely obliterated in this game and didn’t give their guys a fighting chance. Texas was out there running trick plays in the 1st quarter, and I thought we were the team that had nothing to lose?

The more I think about it, I really believe that Dunn still thought it was 2nd down, which is another example of him being terrible at his job.
Really hoping someone will ask him about it. I agree though, down 21 needing a spark and you run up the middle on 3rd and 7? Can only assume he didn’t know what down it was which is inexcusable. He didn’t account for the high snap wasted down. If I was Bowman and saw that play come in, I’d have called a TO.

I would equate making conference championship game in football to making the Sweet 16 in basketball or a Super Regional in baseball. In the big picture, that is a success for OSU football. However, at some point you have to break the barrier, and its been 13 years.

The next few weeks will determined how valid the "Cowboy Culture" is and the camaraderie on this team. IF we can not take many portal hits and get a few of the seniors to come back, there's plenty of optimism for next year. But I just wonder if this is a ceiling for the Gundy/Dunn/Nardo combo.

We were typing at the same time. Great minds think alike. 😉

I actually thought Dunn improved a lot this season, and showed some big leaps compared to the last 10 years of OSU football schemes. Nardo looks in over his head, but this is data point #1, so its hard to know exactly what he is until another 2 seasons. His first data point is not great, though, so he has a lot of work to do.

If Gundy cared to get OSU beyond our current plateau, he'd take pay cuts from his insane salary and put it towards better coordinators, and if he's allowed to allocate it as such, more recruiting budget. From my seat, it appears he cares more about his salary than winning, because he keeps our recruiting budget low and won't pay top notch coordinators.

Coaching staff is to blame but players are as well. Multiple missed tackles in the first half that would’ve got the defense off the field. That’s on them. They’ll get better, our secondary is super young. Big thing is keeping them.

In many of those cases, its because they were so out of position that they were reaching with arm tackles or chasing from behind - totally on their heels from the first series. What it looked like to me is that Texas had a clear advantage in scheme and prep fabricated by an elite staff, and we looked like really ill-prepared amateurs.

I don’t think Gundy will ever be interested in recruiting a bunch 4 or 5 star players. I don’t think he thinks they fit his culture system. He is probably right.

It's not even about a culture fit anymore, it's about NIL money. Any 4/5 rated or worked up to that caliber players in the portal are looking to win championships and get paid. Both of which we fall woefully short in.

Welp, listening to Gundy’s postgame, apparently he’s a big Texas fan, hopes they get in the playoff and wants to see what they can do, said it like 3 times…kinda weird.

Also, you’d have thought the D played well by his comments instead of getting obliterated like they did. Basically the gameplan was to
stop the run and not give up the deep passing plays and apparently he thought they succeeded even though RA had to remind him they gave up a couple of big runs. Texas also only threw deep a handful of times because they were getting 20-30 on screen passes. I’m sure he was just trying protect DC, hopefully he doesn’t actually believe there was anything positive that came from that side of the ball today.

One team wins it all. 6 teams wins a conference title and that’s about to go down. The bag and championships are not mutually inclusive.

I listened to it and he did not come off disappointed at all. This is why fans have the perception that he doesn’t care about getting the program to the next level.

Again, we had multiple freshmen on the field on defense today. Coaches deserve blame but so do the players. They were out of position at times due to them making wrong reads and other things. Sark did an excellent job of game planning. Texas has excellent players who are also experienced. Put that against young guys in a new scheme and you have the chance of the results you watched today. We will be just fine, sky is not falling. I do think it time for changes on the offensive side.

I think it kinda freaked him out and lit a fire under him earlier in the season when it looked like we might not make a bowl. Once we got bowl
eligible and especially after winning Bedlam, that fire went away again and he was just content we were going to exceed preseason expectations. Wish we could consistently see that fire and drive.

They had multiple freshman on the field as well on D that performed well. Our guys were out of position repeatedly. Minus some halftime adjustments, they have been most of the season, evidenced by being 120th out of 130 teams in total D. And our coach has had to acknowledge having bad plans on that side of the ball multiple games and apologize to his players. Not good.

They did, multiple 5* kids offered by other blue bloods. Our guys will be just fine, they need time to develop.

This team probably overachieved by a lot this year!!! I said 8-4 before the season started and they ended up winning 9 games plus managed to end up playing in the conference championship game!!! Texas IS THE BEST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE AND SHOWED IT TODAY!!! I guess they finally figured out how to get all those four and five stars to play to their ability because this group I watched today in Jerry World looked like the Texas teams I saw under Mack Brown back in 2008 and 2009! I did pick up some nice cash last week because I had a friend who lives in Vegas put down a $100 for me on the over of the projected win total which I believe was 6.5 or 7 before the season! Time for some good BBQ tonight!
