Sanders in for Ole Miss

Quit trying to mansplain. He could have avoided most of the negativity, he chose not to do so. He tried to burn the house down on the way out. When you do that people are not going to revere you, they tend to loathe you.
Great job ignoring everything I said, champ, good talk. Again, since it's obviously falling on deaf ears...

F him for HOW he left, it was bad. But now you tell me, given the program was free-falling, why was he wrong simply for leaving?

Nuance exists. Give it a shot.

Let's not pretend like he was unflinchingly heralded as a saint and held in the same regard as a Brandon Weeden or Mason Rudolph was his whole time here. He caught a LOT of flack from the very start, some warranted, but just as much unwarranted. He masked a lot of issues with our offense and without his playmaking ability, we don't win Bedlam in 2021, we don't go to the Big 12 title game, the Fiesta Bowl and beat ND, etc... etc... Don't believe me? Look at how the offense functioned hardly any better this season than last with stone statue Alan Bowman at the helm behind an improved O-Line scheme and the best running back in the country to hand the ball to. Not trying to knock Bowman, just highlighting the clear distinction which, yes, can be argued the other direction in plenty of ways as well. Will also mention it wouldn't take much digging to go back through this board both last season and this season and find several people calling for various coaching and other changes to be made, myself included. This season ended up getting pieced together to a pretty good end result, but few if any of us thought that would be the case the latter half of last season and first half of this season. We all thought it was going to be a repeat of 2022 and end with not even being bowl eligible. Given all that, would you personally look to go to a known good team for your final year to try and earn a starting spot, or hang onto a seemingly sinking ship with the same combo of Dunn and Dickey that flopped the year prior? You still have nothing more to think or say regarding SS leaving besides "F--- you"?

TLDR: Faulting him for the way he left is fair, I won't argue that. But faulting him for leaving considering all the circumstances is pretty rich.
The revisionist history is that Sanders was some sort of all-american being held back by Dunn, etc. Sorry, but playcalling is a lot harder and limited when the QB is a turnover machine. Like this year, our coaching staff has shown over and over again that they can win big games and go far with limited qbs, tons of injuries, and lacking the depth of the bludblood programs. The fact that we played for two conference titles with Sanders and Bowman at QB is a testament to the coaching staff. Period. You ever wonder why TCU, WVU, KSU, etc. are so up and down year to year? It all has to work out perfectly for them in good years and they cannot overcome injuries or player limitations in the bad years. We have won a ton of games despite these same issues and are on our 18th straight bowl game. We've done it with QBs like Walsh, Corndog, Chelf, guys who had their own limitations. We need the next Weeden to get over that hump, but until then, I don't see our bowl streak ending any time soon. If not last year or this year, when will it be that we fall below .500?

It is not that SS left OSU, it is how he left. He revealed a lot of bad character traits on his way out the door. He was a 23 year old (at the time) professional football player making 400k. He even burned the company that gave him NIL money.

In the business world, you don't try and burn everything down on your way out. I would never higher someone that did this.
Fair assessment, my same thoughts. At least one person here can see things as not a strict dichotomy of he was a perfect angel or the spawn of Satan himself.

He could be a turnover machine, yes, and he also pulled off feats that kept us in just as many games as his turnover tendencies lost us. I don't know when we fall below .500 again, but I'm 100% confident it would have been 2022 without SS at QB, because for as bad as the offense was with him in, it was infinitely worse with Rangel or Gundy behind center.

SS was far from perfect and wasn't all-american caliber, but replacing him with any other QB on our roster during his time here wouldn't have netted any better results, quite likely worse. That seems to be lost on most everybody on this board.

hire, not higher.

Leaving Dunn as the OC was burning the house down.

We also had a personnel problem and lack of battle tested offensive lineman and running backs in 2022.

People expected Spencer Sanders to just fix everything. We have a good cook , no chef’s recipe, and ingredients that weren’t ready and he acted out.

Around the Boise game in 2021 he evolved from primadona qb to a legit captain- having six year OL, an amazing defense and Jaylen Warren and Tay Martin helped.

In 2022, we had multiple problems that were smoke and mirrors on the start and he couldn’t stay healthy and couldn’t take a lot of the people having unreasonable expectations.

I’m happy if he got money. He’s an enigma. Talented but it’s not a black/white issue - Don’t make him out to be Osama Bin Laden just because he acts like a 20 year old.

I wish him nothing but the best, just like I do all the players that sacrifice their body for my enthusiasm and entertainment as an OSU grad

Wow, so angry. Like I wrote previously you need to quit mansplaining, you are not nuanced enough to pull it off.

May I suggest that there may be one of us in this inane conversation that knows a hell of a lot more about Mr Sanders than the other one? Leave it alone, he is not the harmless collegiate athlete you are portraying. Just leave it alone and return to your regular Gundy and Dunn loathe-a-thon.

Its downright bizarre that the actions of a college kid have this big of an impact on you. Spencer Sanders gave a lot for OSU, but also had some flaws (as we all do). He left disgracefully, but he's still a human. More than likely he'll grow up and realize he made some mistakes (as we all do). Its wrong that you're justifying "vitriol" towards him for being a dumb, selfish college kid. Did he personally hurt you somehow?

Are you a therapist now?

No... This is basic enough that it doesn't require professional training. As a grown adult, it’s super weird that you feel personally affronted by the actions of a random college athlete who is unaware of your existence.
Sorry you are bloviating and trying to be cute, go try to get Gundy fired or something

Damn you're certainly hanging on SS's jock strap for some reason that is completely beyond me.

@andylicious may be a little over the top with his disdain for the kid, but dang....you're over the top the other way as well.

I am almost certain that he didn't pick the name out of a hat.

Fair. Remove the word "random", and my point still stands.
Well, let's try it with better, more correct adjectives.

Considering you know so much about the inner workings of our football program and the lives of our players, it's even more sad that you do nothing but resort to tired and baseless ad hominem attacks instead of actually explaining your stance. Oh, whoopsie, there I go "MANSPLAINING" again.

Either give us some new and substantial information or shut your mouth. Hilarious to me that you point the finger at others for unjustifiably hating Gundy and Dunn when you are doing the EXACT SAME THING toward SS. Despite everybody here agreeing with you on several aspects, you hold your breath and stick your fingers in your ears like a tantrum-throwing toddler and refuse to acknowledge anything.

But your posting history shows you won't offer anything of substance, you'll only continue like you've done thus far here. So I'll leave it alone and you can return to and enjoy your SS loathe-a-thon you blowhard.

HOW DARE YOU say that andy is even a little over the top with his disdain! You either unquestionably agree 110% with everything he says or you're wrong! Bend the knee and accept that he is the end-all-be-all of OSU football coach and player knowledge, or you might as well just go be a fan of that team down south!

True. I'm just sick of the mantra that the OC, Gundy, etc. are a huge problem. Sanders was good enough and we won some big games with him at QB. The coaches did a good job. But as we learned this year, we brought in Bowman with his own limitations and had success. Again, kudos to the coaches.
