Devil’s advocate here, but what if Bowman’s really the best overall option we have? I certainly don’t see it and I don’t know of anyone else who does either, but MG and Rattay see them all every day. (Discounting Dunn intentionally). At some point you have to take their opinions into consideration. They’re both pro’s with a ton of experience, can’t imagine they’d intentionally put their less than best on the field.

You mean the same dude who thought Alex Cate was better than Brandon Weeden?

BTW, I was not advocating against diving into the coaching carousel...I was saying the fanbase needs to accept that is a reality to what will happen when the move from Gundy & friends occurs.
See previous post about how places like KState, Iowa State, OSU etc... are not losing their coaches to bigger schools anymore

I'd bet he's the best in practice with a no contact jersey on. He seems to have the best command of the O pre-snap and makes quick reads.

The problem is that he's clearly not comfortable behind our line and bails out way too quickly. This is probably due to a history of injuries and being on the shelf for two years. He's too slow and doesn't have the arm strength to pull off the back foot running away style he's employing.

I was really disappointed in what I saw from him yesterday and from Gundy last week. At some point a QB has to stand in and deliver the ball, knowing they are going to take a hit. ISUs young QB was willing to do that yesterday and that was a huge difference.

I agree. Gundy actually showed a spark of emotion on the sidelines yesterday, it’s been so long that he’s done that anywhere but when he’s berating reporters that it looked weird and out of place.

I'm going to update the scoring drive data because when I posted it originally I got it wrong.

Gundy scoring drives
93yd: 9plays, 7pts
78yd: 6plays, 7pts
75yd: 6plays, 3 pts (40yds FG)
60yd: 5plays, 7pts
84yd: 17plays, 7pts

Rangel
80yd: 9 plays, 7pts
57yd: 10 plays, 3 pts (52 yd FG)
33yd: 6 plays, 7pts

Bowman
40yd: 11 plays, 3 pts (31 yds FG)
28yd: 4 plays, 3pts (45 yd FG)
43yd: 7 plays, 7 pts

It doesn't say from within like Zach Arnett says, it says promoted. Meaning, he wasn't making a Head to Head move. He was making a move that was a promotion from DC to Head. The bottom of my post does say this "The rest either came from a G5 or were promoted from within" so let that be corrected and the point not changed at all.
Also, Mark Richt had been OC/QB coach at Florida State before becoming head coach at Georgia, not "position coach at OU". Also, Hugh Freeze was head coach at Arkansas State and Ole Miss before becoming head coach at Liberty. Where on earth are you getting this? Are you just making it up?

Hugh Freeze came to Auburn from Liberty, that is 100% accurate, so not sure what you're trying to point out there.
Mark Richt was meant to say Shane Beamer, which was probably surely fairly obvious for someone with your football acumen. But, my bad on that, my mistake & I apologize if that made you lose the point.

I believe the fanbase simply needs to ask itself: do we want to be in search of a new coach every3-5 years and have a shot at the playoffs maybe 1-2 of those years? That's what will happen...guaranteed. I dont know what the answer is to NIL or any of the recruiting questions...honestly, nobody does outside of the bluebloods.
At the end of the day, love it or hate it...we are Stillwater.
Yes, that sounds really good to me (not that I agree that would be the case,) because it would mean we were winning--a lot. Shot at the playoffs? That'd be nice, 'cause it's not happening with the guy we've got. That's not even a pipe dream at this point.

I dont agree...change is needed now...in the last couple of years. But, without saying he is the only coach we can have... he is the coach we have had that built the attitude it takes to want to move on to a new coach that can take the program further.

Gundy’s not going anywhere unless an atomic bomb situation occurs, but eventually he will leave and unless there’s some anointed successor whatever the coaching carousel thing you fear will come to pass anyway. So what’s the difference if it happens in 1 year, 3 years or 15? And y’all talking about someone coming in for Gundy’s 7.6 salary we wouldn’t even offer that to a Saban level name brand coach, because if he were successful we couldn’t afford a raise and they’d still leave for somewhere with deeper pockets! Hell at this point I say bring back The Hat! He’d probably take the job for 4.5 at this point, maybe a whole lot less, it’s not like he’s going to be courted away by anyone else, he’s familiar with Stillwater and knows how to coach! Sure we’d have to hire a couple of handlers to keep him in line for 100k each, but that’s just pocket change! Let er rip!!!!

IMO Gundy has earned the right to fix this. It’s not going to be fixed this year and maybe not 100% restored next year but at the very least steps have to be taken at the end of the season to move the program in a different direction.

I don’t expect Gundy to start calling out players/position groups or coaches in public. That’s not his style and I appreciate that. But I do expect him to be more genuine w the fan base. We can all see that we are not close. We can all see where the deficiencies are. We can also see that schemes need to change and which sides of the ball. If that means new coaches then that means new coaches.

He also needs to be honest w alums/fans/donors about NIL and how we can help. We have a loyal and committed group. Be honest w us and we will respond.

I'm not a coach, but I did play 6A and had a scholly to a directional school - (I "retired" after 2/a days my freshman year and came to Stilly)

I think bringing in a new QB to an offense is challenging.
I think it becomes more challenging when you have an unqualified OC for a P5 school.
If the OC was to become available in the offseason, would your OC have other P5 offers? if not. he's unqualified.
I think offensive line blocking is important.
When you have low quality OL play, it makes it more difficult to run an offense.
I think Ollie Nixon and Brennan Pressley could play on Sundays
I think getting offensive players that can play on Sundays more touches makes an offense better.

I grew up on a farm in Owasso Oklahoma, and I'm unfamiliar with anything that smells as unique as our offense.
Gundy's a former OC and has been watching this for the last two plus years.
He made a choice to sign on to a third year of this.
I’ve got a smell that’s close, lancing an abscess on calf.
