Official Game Thread: Oklahoma State vs. Colorado

I’m not on the fire Gundy train yet, I’ll save that for if he doesn’t can both coordinators. I do think though college football is passing him by, and quickly. He was definitely slow to adapt to NIL and the transfer portal. But even this year, his loyalty to coordinators, and “you can’t make a change mid-season”. Look at how many teams have, and even some created a spark. Just look at Nebraska with Holgerson and down south at ou as well salvaged a bowl game. Also, his resistance to play young guys, especially true freshman. He consistently insists you have to have 2 years in the program and that is not today’s college football.

Trying hard to remember the last time we had our asses kicked this badly.

Really have no words for this colossal failure of a season.
The 2023 45-3 loss to UCF was horrible.

The 2022 48-0 loss the KState was brutal.

But the 2024 52-0 loss to Colorado was the worst.

Fortunately, we received the NCAA football Trophy for Consistency, so we're all good.

I think he has some PTSD from playing as a freshman and doesn't want that to happen with these young QBs, completely not getting that its a different world now. They either play or leave.

Hard to disagree with this. Mr ‘We haven’t changed anything around here in 10 years’ has got some serious reflection in front of him.

Can’t help but wonder what a Sumrall would do with this program.

I always knew the Gundy era would be over one day, but I thought most likely he would continue his good but not great record of success, keep us averaging about a 8-4, 9-3 team most years and sail off into the sunset as our greatest coach. The one thing I never saw coming was him leaving the program in far worse shape than he found it and that appears that this is going to be the case!

You’re right. I guess I chalked those up as running into a team on their best day and us having our worst. Today is just a total ‘where the hell’s this program going?’ exclamation mark.

The only hope is if he can use the transfer portal to pick up some defensive talent
It's not even about talent at this point. Gundy is so far removed from doing the things it takes to win in today's game that he'd have to become an entirely different person to even consider STARTING the process of building success. Like....he's not even considering doing the things it takes to win in today's game, and throws literal tantrums any time he feels the slightest pressure. If he was the CEO of my company, I'd be embarrassed. That's not the type of leader you want.

Honestly....end the rolling contract, and I think he'll just quit on his own right then and there, because he's that selfish and fragile.

When we have another crappy season what then?

That is the AD’s call. I am just being realistic. You don’t fire a guy for one bad season when he has a winning record in 18 of 20 seasons and is one year removed from a conference championship game.

I’m pissed about him and the entire coaching staff as well, do not understand how they can be this bad with so many back from a 10 win team. But, I would be shocked if he is fired. Too much success.

I can imagine a scenario where Chad does not pursue a rollover of Gundawg's contract. That's effectively a no confidence vote. Maybe Gundawg knows that he's pretty much done at OSU and negotiates a buyout at 10-12 million.

Weiberg: “Mike, we aren’t auto renewing your contract. So we owe you 7.5m (or more) per year for the next five years. Or we can pay you $25m to leave now, but we can’t afford that. So please do a bang up job and get better and let’s hope when you recruit, the players won’t care about a HC change in the future. How does that sound?”

Gundawg: “Let me do some Midwest City math………Uhhhh, no.”

Please elaborate on this “scenario” where Gundy thinks it’s in his best interest to take anything less than $25m now or $37.5m over the next five years.

I'm going to look at the last few seasons and see how many blowouts there have been, and it will be ugly

It's hard for me to consider that today is the worst loss. I mean technically by score, yes. But I totally expected this result coming into today. Those other 2 games were shocking losses to me at the time.
