Official Game Thread: UT-Martin vs. Oklahoma State

Just bizarre. I did not see anything on the field that would reflect Hejny being hurt. Maybe I missed something. Did anyone else see it?
I just rewatched to see. It looks like on his last throw, which as a deep pass incomplete, a defender’s leg makes contact with Hejny’s leg, but it’s hard to see because the camera goes downfield. They then show the sideline you see Hauss jogging off. Really weird. Can only hope they were just overly cautious but I would have thought they’d have just said he was questionable if that was the case.

Rewatching though, those first 2 drives were night and day over what we saw the rest of the game. Drives of 71 and 93 yards, both TDs, he was 5-7 for 96 yards. Totally in command of the offense. The 3rd possession was a little sloppy, 3 and out, just throwing it downfield. That’s where most of the incompletes came, although one the receiver fell down.

I can’t believe the number of mamby-pamby negative Nancy’s who are on this board. Man up and get a positive attitude toward the Cowboys. In other words, BE LIKE A REAL COWBOY.
Step away from your keyboard then. That game was mediocrity defined, following a 3 win season. And this is a message board where people share their thoughts. Your corny ‘real Cowboy’ schtick is cute.

And your negativity this early in a season of unknowns is pathetic. Sit back and pay more attention instead of spouting off a bunch of crybaby responses. Remember the 2021 season? We won the first three games by a total of 18 points yet went on to win a lot more including a Fiesta Bowl win. In other words, as Boone said, “Don’t rush the monkey and you’ll get a better show”.

It was a mediocre performance. The rest of your drivel isn’t worth addressing.

Until gundy decides to pay up for good offensive linemen, we are going to watch us peddle around for 3 ypc. Our qb are ok and hicks would be getting double that 3 ypc at ou.

Gundy is too busy chasing 8 wide receivers and 10 running backs. He needs to focus on developing talent on the oline. I think we have some younger guys with promise but the ones with experience should be mauling dudes and they are NOT

As much as people were complaining about the defense, looking at the numbers, they weren't that bad. Only gave up 225 yards, UT-Martin was 6-15 on 3rd down. So they got off the field on third down 60% of the time. One pick, 4 sacks, 9 TFLs. For a group that has a ton of new faces, I feel like those numbers are lightyears better than anything we saw last year. The only score and 39 of their yards came on a trick play that probably only works that well in game 1.

I am part of the sky is falling crowd, but I completely agree with your assessment. The scheme was miles better than what we saw last year. I think we have issues at the safety position but liked the rest of the defense. Gregory may be a star.

Let’s all face it, we wanted blood last night and didn’t get it. It doesn’t help any the media is negative. For a first game the numbers aren’t terrible and Cap is right, we are closer to the 2021 team when you look at the whole. I was ready to sell my season tickets last night, but that’s because I wanted a blowout.

Yeah, I'm feeling a major overreaction from most on here to last night. Or I suppose, it was just misguided expectations. We won 3 games last year and got a bunch of transfers from non power 5 schools and was breaking in an almost completely new team. A realistic expectation for a "good" season this year would be 6-8 wins. Not every 6-8 win teams goes out and blows the doors off of a good FCS team. The spread was -20.5 most of the week before jumping up yesterday. We won by 20.

That game tells us we probably aren't winning the Big 12 this year, but you should've already known that if you're realistic at all. That game also doesn't mean we are only going to win 2 games.

Everyone should prepare for a beatdown next week. And that is not an "OSU sucks" statement. We're an average to below average team, playing a top ten team on the road in a stadium known for being tough to play in. So, just brace yourselves and hope we can glean a few good things from it, but overall, it's going to be a beatdown.

Just trying to get ahead of the fire everyone, we're going to win two games crowd next week.

Defense would have pitched a shutout if it wasn't for a trick play. Granted we got one of the easiest interceptions you will ever see to get there but considering how awful we were last year, that was good to see regardless of the competition.

Hejny looked pretty good to start the game and if his injury isn't too bad it will help. Flores didn't look as good, but as was pointed out elsewhere last night that was his first game action in 3 years and the coaches probably told him dont run which limited him offensively. He isn't the speedster that Hejny is but he is mobile. Knock off the rust and open up the offense a little more and he would be better.

Running backs though-that performance didn't give me a lot of confidence.

we look like a .500 team...defense looked slightly improved from last year...offense looked roughly the same...run, short passes, deep balls down sidelines...Oregon should beat us by 2 or 3 TDs...hopefully we overachieve...

Howland didn’t play but I think he will get the bulk of the carries against Oregon. Hejny did good until hurt. I thinks Flores had the jitters when he went in but he settled down later. Hejny played in four games last year. Flores hasn’t played in a game since high school. It’s going to take time for the line to gel. They will get better.

I hope so because the competition isn’t crap going forward except maybe Tulsa
