OT: General CFB Thread

I must have missed the explanation for this, but why in f#*% are BYU and Colorado playing each other in a bowl game?
The explanation i saw was the bowl was tied to Pac12 (and former Pac12) and Big12. The only former Pac12 team eligible was Colorado, so they got the spot and BYU got it for Big12. Pretty dumb but thats bowl season.

Washington, California, and USC were bowl eligible. Obviously Arizona State and Oregon weren't going there but there were other options.

Yes, I got their eligibility wrong, but Washington, USC and Cal were all 6-6. So the bowl chose a 9-3 Colorado. Not sure what they would have done if BYU and Colorado had already played in conference play this year.

What? Why would two teams that played in conference play in a bowl game?

Anybody concerned about Cam Ward quiting at halftime of the PopTart Bowl? I understand if he was an amateur. But he’s a highly paid professional athlete that just quit on his team

I'd probably feel better about it if transfers weren't so prevalent. If he was a 4 year player/multi year starter in a meaningless exhibition game and wanted to take a bow at halftime and let the next guy get in, I dont have a problem with it. Being that it's only one year and he got paid handsomely to be there I would prefer he end what he started.

That being said, considering the situation I get it. The guy isn't worried about whether he's a day 2 or 3 guy-he might be the no 1 overall pick. Yeah he's getting paid (over the table) now, but he's about 5 months from generational FU money. In today's college game, give him credit for sticking it out with his team through bowl practices when he could have opted out the minute they didn't make the playoff and start on draft prep.

Are you sure that was his choice? Could have been the HC’s decision.

Tylan Wallace did that a few years ago, against Miami. It was planned, I think this was, too. Doesn't bother me. At least he was there.

Wallace wasn’t paid $1.5M to play that year Ward is a professional athlete

True. But like I said, at least he played. Getting their backup QB playing time also may have been best for the program.

"Cam Ward did not opt out at halftime," longtime Miami sports journalist Tim Reynolds said. "Miami had to evaluate Emory Williams today as well. That was important. And I’d bet most fans would have rather taken two quarters of Cam Ward over no quarters of Cam Ward."

Stutsman and Bowman from OU didn't even suit up, but they get no criticism. They are well paid. I bet if they play, they don't let that Navy QB go 95 yards.

Louisville's QB skipped the bowl game for NFL draft. Not mentioned by anyone.

Offensive players who skipped their bowl game
  • Missouri WR Luther Burden III (NFL Draft)
  • Iowa RB Kaleb Johnson (NFL Draft)
  • LSU T Will Campbell (NFL Draft)
  • LSU T Emory Jones (NFL Draft)
  • LSU TE Mason Taylor (NFL Draft)
  • San Jose State WR Nick Nash (NFL Draft)
  • Kansas State RB DJ Giddens (NFL Draft)
  • Arkansas WR Andrew Armstrong (NFL Draft)
  • Arkansas RB Ja'Quinden Jackson (NFL Draft)
  • USC RB Woody Marks (NFL Draft)
  • UNC RB Omarion Hampton (NFL Draft)
  • Michigan TE Colston Loveland (NFL Draft)
  • Michigan RB Donovan Edwards (NFL Draft)
  • Louisville WR Ja'Corey Brooks (NFL Draft)
And here's a list of defensive players:
  • Texas A&M DE Shemar Stewart (NFL Draft)
  • Michigan DT Mason Graham (NFL Draft)
  • Michigan CB Will Johnson (NFL Draft)
  • South Carolina DE Kyle Kennard (NFL Draft)
  • Virginia Tech DE Antwaun Powell-Ryland (NFL Draft)
So why does Cam Ward, who by all accounts is a great kid, get critcized when he plays a half?

He got the record and then came out of the game, as was planned ahead of time. I actually think the meaningless bowl games should be a lot more about younger players and looking towards the future.

I would give seniors and most of the starters the first half and then say you guys go enjoy the experience and It’s time to turn it over to the younger guys.
