Well, Gundy wasn't lying when he said there wasn't much separation between QBs.
Assuming we agree that naming a #1 is the best plan moving forward, if you're Gundy/Dunn who are you going with?

They were pretty equal.

Rangel - best arm
last night: Was surprised they took him out. Had at least three check downs to the right receivers, but missed Presley wide open over the middle and just threw it away. OL was horrible while he was in.

Gunday - best runner
last night: Threw a great dime to Bray. Led them on two large TD drives. He also forced Presley to jump out of route with an inaccurate throw and didn’t get first down.

Bowman - most experience
last night: Has an unusual low shoulder shot-put release. Missed several receivers, but also had drops. He seemed behind the other two.

We only have the one night and 1+ quarter to compare…the coaches can evaluate every day. Answer can’t be to play 3 QBs every game. That is a recipe for failure and doesn’t give any of them opportunity to improve and have confidence.
If Bowman is not better, I would rather them go with the better passer (Rangel) or better runner (Gundy)…they both have 3 years of eligibility.

I pretty much agree with all of this although I thought personally Rangel looked the most mobile, I thought Rangel was most accurate but Gundy had just a touch more zip on his throws.

Either way I think going forward it’s going to be Rangel or Gundy, I don’t think you can take much away from this game it looked like it was treated as a second spring game so it’s going to come down to who in practice can run our actual offense better. I honestly think it’s going to come down to who can be the better leader, who’s more in control and who can take charge, it wouldn’t shock me at all if that is Gundy, from what I’ve seen of Rangel he seems more of the quiet type. Either way the sooner it gets sorted out the better, neither of these two guys have started enough games that they can just continue to split all the reps.

Bowman got screwed with some drops, but overall I think he is behind Rangel/Gundy. Still think that Gundy looked the best because we were able to run the football… Weird how that works right?

Really liked what I saw from Rangel the most. Had the beautiful deep ball to Stribling and made mostly all the right reads. He is also a lot faster than I anticipated.

There is no reason to keep playing bowman unless he is clearly better in practice and the team thinks he is QB1, but he did not show that in the game. And the fact that Bowman has 1 year left, play one of the young guys and call it a day. My vote would be Rangel I think he has more upside and it’s a better look for the program.

Based just on last night I can see the struggle to name one. Surely though after watching them for a month somebody has an edge.

Rangel had some good moments, especially seemed to have a good connection with Stribling. That first drive ended really ugly. Second drive, 80 yards in 9 plays, looked great. Most of his incompletions were throw aways due to coverage. Birmingham killed a drive with the unnecessary roughness. He was also the victim of a Kasey Dunn, 3 and out, run/run/run series.

Bowman came in slinging it around. Got it out quickly so didn’t seem as impacted by the poor Oline play. Had two 10-11 play drives. Was the victim of several drops and zero run game. His wheels are clearly lacking but that was expected. His 3rd series was just with 20 seconds left in the half so not much to see there.

Gundy started off rough with a 3 and out. His 2nd and 3rd drives leading to TDs were very good. He did throw a pretty deep ball to Bray, and gives some running threat himself. He did seem greatly benefited by the awakening of the run game, or tiredness of the D. I’d like to see him start the game in AZ to see if the offense operates as effectively against a fresh D.

Overall, I think with the continued Oline deficiencies it will end up being Bowman, not because he is necessarily the best, but may be the best option for the situation we find ourselves in again. He can complete passes quickly and negate pass rush.

I thought Rangel looked the best, and would like to have seen him get more reps. Bowman looked rusty and like he hadn't had any live snaps in 2 years. Gunnar looked more comfortable than last year, but you also have to take in to account the level of competition.

They seemed to play a little harder for Gundy. Rangel is an enigma, I’m not sure what we are seeing there either good or bad. Rangel is more athletic than the other two. Bowman had some really bad luck.

I can’t remember, who was the QB on the check down and “unnecessary roughness” call? Changed that drive completely and we had some
Momentum.

A phantom hold on a long run by Ollie changed things too.

They never could find any rhythm top to bottom. That’s what scares me most about playing all the QB’s.

Do you think that our portal losses at receiver last year knew a little something about the quality of our QBs?

Watched every offensive snap again(thanks BigDave on YouTube) and I'm even more confused.

Rangel looked pretty good. Had pretty good presence and control of the team. He was at an advantage in that he was running the scripted plays but disadvantaged that we couldn't run zone at all. No drops from receivers and only one wrong route. Bad penalty call on Birmingham took away a big completion to Stewart. The TD was a great play from presley and the int wasn't good fault.

Bowman had horrible luck. No run game, 3 drops, 2 wrong routes and was pressured a ton. Threw the ball away 3 times too. Best presence and control of O. Only missed two throws that should have been completions. Numbers were bad.

Gundy had the best run game. Opened everything else up for him but up his credit, he took advantage. No drops or wrong routes from WRs either. Only safe throws but again, no mistakes. Best runner as well.

In conclusion, I have no idea. If it was me I'd go with Bowman on the road against ASU but I won't be surprised with anything.

Maybe but with this era of NIL, etc. quien sabe. I know it's still early and we have our own problems, but after the first game of the season JPR transferring to TCU doesn't exactly look like a great move.

That was Rangel's 3rd drive.

Flores will be the starter next year.

If it is a tie, I've gotta go with Rangel due to highest upside with his overall tool set. Bowman is here one yr so if he isn't better, then he can be a GA in pads. Gundy will limit you more against better competition and we don't have the elite skill player talent to bail us out. However, if Bowman can separate himself from those 2, then I think we have better upside overall as a team.

Well said here. Agreed.
