Don’t know what that even meansNo. I’m talking about winning games and being able to hang on to a coach.

I believe we fall into the "coaches need to be alumni" trap worse than other schools when the saviors of our programs have had names like Sutton, Smith, Gundy, Holder and Holliday. We seem to have created a rule for ourselves, for better or worse.Re: my comment above. Cousins has thrown for 8 INT’s & 0 TD’s in their last 4 games, & ATL is now behind TB in their sorry division.
Working under one of the recognized offensive geniuses in the NFL (Bienemy,Zrob) doesn’t necessarily make you one of them.
I’m not saying he wouldn’t be a great choice, but man, the propensity for people to fall in love with an alum as a savior is, well, soooo college.
@DxCowboy, this is what I meant by we want who we want. All that being said, I don’t think it matters as much to Weiberg. None of his selections so far are OSU alumni.I believe we fall into the "coaches need to be alumni" trap worse than other schools when the saviors of our programs have had names like Sutton, Smith, Gundy, Holder and Holliday. Bit more nuanced. How many posts have you read that say something to the effect of “Stillwater is hard to recruit to, Our fans/alumni went there and have a real tie to the school unlike other places, XYZ coach will never come here (that’s my favorite), his wife doesn’t want to be here, we have no money, we’re a stepping stone school for bigger jobs, etc etc.I believe we fall into the "coaches need to be alumni" trap worse than other schools when the saviors of our programs have had names like Sutton, Smith, Gundy, Holder and Holliday. Underpants…….LOL!Bit more nuanced. It’s not a trap we fall into, we actively created it and prop it up. That said, Kenny G, Underpants, Hoyt Boynton, Lutz and Taylor have moved away from that model. If they win, we have to figure out how to keep them. And also be ready to move on from the ones that don’t…….
Accurate!Underpants…….LOL!
He could coach but we couldn’t hold onto him, probably because he knew what was going to happen to us.Underpants…….LOL!
Belichick’s bible would require historic levels of investment from the school. Includes salary minimums position by position and a willingness to hire two staffs: a coaching staff run by Belichick; a recruitment staff run by a sitting college GM — who would require a buyout
Belichick has a college and pro version of his updated manual and has shared it with other schools and NFL teams. But he drafted a new one specific to UNC that touched on every aspect of the program and school. Will need sign off from AD, chancellor, trustees and boosters
There has already been pushback from the group of 13 trustees, with input from wider faculty. The investment would overhaul the school’s approach to football; Belichick unsure if the school will meet the demands and is unwilling to negotiate
We also don’t have a mallBit more nuanced. Further;
This is the level of restructuring that is required to get a leg up on the new landscape of college football. Let the coaches coach, and the personnel people be personnel people.
Oh I definitely think he has a short go of it. And he wouldn’t be my first choice of energetic nfl coach. I’m mostly referring to his points about organization and duties across the staff.Maybe, but then again we're talking about Bill B here. If he ends up there, I don't think it's going to work for long if at all. He's a pretty unsufferable person. Heck, he rubbed NFL players the wrong way. Not sure how he's gonna relate to college players.
The Stillwater is hard to recruit to/what coach would want to come here excuse drives me crazy.Bit more nuanced. I'd drop MD from your list. College Park is inside the DC beltway and is the main universty (and only FBS football school other than Navy) in MD.The Stillwater is hard to recruit to/what coach would want to come here excuse drives me crazy.
--Oxford, Mississippi has 27,000 people and isn't near any metro areas (its Mississippi), they don't seem to have a problem
--Clemson, South Carolina has 17,000 people but their college does well
--College Park, MD has 32,000
--State College, PN has 42,000 and they are a perrennial power
and many more.
I'm so tired of that excuse, and it holds us back. We do best when we have coaches and admin who don't think that way. (Kenny G, for example, who just coaches and recruits his butt off)
The reporting has been that it was the latter.Any word on why Gundawg agreed to restructure his contract instead of walking away with $25 mill? Possibilities: He really wants to continue coaching at OSU. The BoR had a good case for firing him for "cause" (which I find hard to believe). Can't think of anything else.
My guess is the latter. There is nothing in his character that would indicate otherwise. Most of his past actions indicate the opposite, actually.Any word on why Gundawg agreed to restructure his contract instead of walking away with $25 mill? I thought he had essentially agreed to take the pay cut for NIL purposes before the meeting was even scheduled. The reporting has been that it was the latter.
Then why was he given a 5 pm deadline?I thought he had essentially agreed to take the pay cut for NIL purposes before the meeting was even scheduled.
That was the BoR way of saying that they thought they had cause to fire him but his lawyers wanted to push back and see what they would do when they were challenged. The Board blinked when they didn’t do what they said they would do. Gundy blinked when he accepted the part about a lower buyout. Now we have to wait until next season to see if it’s his last season or not. The down side is that he now appears to be a lame duck coach. That will hurt recruiting. The only way to combat that is with more NIL. Let’s move on.Then why was he given a 5 pm deadline?
