I'm not calling for the return of Miles. The point is the right coach can turn things around as Les did here. You are probably not old enough to remember the culture of Cowboy football before Miles and Gundy, or Lewis field, or 0-10-1
Seems to me the BoR are cleaning up the mess made by Gundy, Shrum, and Weiberg. Gundy’s actions and public statements were not those of somebody that respects or values the position of HFBC at OSU. Mike basically ran roughshod this year and Weiberg/Shrum were either unwilling or unable to keep him in check. After this year there were only two possible outcomes. Either Gundy had to go, or that contract had to go. It seems like the BoR is going to achieve one of those outcomes. To me they are the only adults in the situation.Meh. I agree that his ego, comments, and performance haven't been good, but also believe the BOR has (seemingly) handled this really poorly/unfairly.
Seems like Shrum and Weiberg are the only adults in this situation. Do they not have any influence?
I don't think the goal was to fire him, but to regain some leverage with his contract. They went a little extreme with it, but it seems like that was accomplished. At some point he deserves some credit for taking a perennial lose in to a mostly perennial contender. If he was similar to how boynton was off the court this wouldn’t even be a conversation. It has nothing to do with 3-9, it has to do with being a jerk. Osu doesn’t have 25 mil, they don’t have cause (if they had either they would have just fired him), but they do look like complete morons at the end of this, no matter how it turns out. And that’s awful moving forward.
Lincoln Riley went 55-10 at OUThis is legitimately an honest question. Who are the schools that have fired a long term successful coach and brought in someone who has been equally or more successful. Lsu after miles maybe. But I can also think of Nebraska after sollich or pelini, Texas A&M after slocum, usc after Carroll, auburn after malzahn, tech after leach, Tennessee after fulmer, it’s taken Texas a decade to get back. It’s much easier to find where it didn’t work. I get there’s a time when you have to move on. But these teams with all of the money in the world can’t get it right and I’m supposed to believe osu will.

I didn't want Gundy fired, but him staying doesn't guarantee that we keep winning, either.
He's created a GIANT DUMPSTER FIRE.
There's few P4 programs in a worse current state than this one. Having a winning season next year will take a lot of work.
Agree, low base and boat load of them.I hope there are some performance incentives in th revised contract.
Look at Indiana, a perennial doormat. All it took was finding the right guy, and in year 1, they’re in the CFP. The guy’s brash and bold, and has immediately instilled toughness and a winning attitude. If Gundy has actually coached his last game here, then I'll be sad. I'll be sad for how it ended after he has been the face of this program for the past 20 years. I'll be sad that it was 90% his fault. I'll be sad that he fell victim to his own ego. If he was done, he could've and should've gone out on his own terms. Instead, we all suffered through this season- his name, Dunn's, and Bowman's all dragged through the mud. Who knows what this season did to Nardo's career. It likely cost Gordon a first round selection, which is millions of dollars he's lost out on. It sucks that it had to play out like this.
It's also surprising just how many OSU fans think that losing Gundy will set our program back. We can achieve the same level of success without Gundy as we did with him, if not more. Where Gundy has been a great coach, he's been a collosal disappointment in some key areas. He has 1 CCG win. A losing record against our rival. Declining results on the field over the past 7 years when compared to the 10 years prior. Declining results on the recruiting trail. We'll never know how much of our success was Gundy and how much of that was other factors, such as hundreds of millions of dollars coming into the program. Certainly, he won't be easy to replace, but it's not an impossibility. Let's see what someone new can do. Someone who has the fire to coach and build their legacy instead of someone who's been coasting on theirs. I don't know what the results will be, but I can assure you that it can't be much worse than going 3-9 and 0-9 in conference after returning a roster that had played 90% of the snaps from a 10 win season the year prior.
Agree 100%The university and BOR have as much responsibility in this as Gundy does. They approved the contract (year after year) that they now deem is no good. They also allowed Gundy the freedom to do the crap he has done. As his employer they had the power/authority to address him. Now, after a 3-9 year where he was winless in conference they decide (maybe justified) it is no good and to blow it up.
I don’t disagree with your post, but the university and BOR are just as culpable in this train wreck as Gundy. It has been a joint venture in my opinion.

Agree. It was extreme, but nobody on the outside cares how it was done outside of us. Recruits won't care, either. They care about playing time and NIL.welp...that was fun...at the very least, maybe it gave Mike a good ole 'wake up call' or even a 'wake the f&(^ up call'...maybe he can realize now he ain't too big for the program....
I’m curious as to how you view that he’s created a dumpster fire here? Were we not playing for a big 12 championship this exact time last season? Also, were we not 1 inch away from winning the big 12 championship and a playoff birth 2 seasons ago?I don't think the goal was to fire him, but to regain some leverage with his contract. They went a little extreme with it, but it seems like that was accomplished.

This is a tired trope that just needs to die.We all want Gundy to be more involved in the NIL, but its hard to compete when we were dead last in NIL. PayCom and CCR money should make us really competitive
Whoops! My Guy.He literally admonished fans who called in about Miles to LSU & told them they had no clue, Les told me he’s not leaving.
Then he played the. ‘I can’t believe he lied to me’ card.
Get it?
Does he need to dust off his how I spent the night at the Gundy’s house the night before signing day for Mike story?
He’s tied to Gundy since 1983 dude.
A perennial contender but only once a winner. I guess that's good enough for some people . . .At some point he deserves some credit for taking a perennial lose in to a mostly perennial contender. 3-9, losing 52-0, longest losing streak in school history, ripping angry fans, stubbornly not using the portal (his words), having the worst defense in the nation, repeated stupid coach hires, leaving Nick Martin in to get injured in a blow out (people forget how stupid that was), publicly criticizing the game plan of his assistants when he's the one who signs off on it, yesterday (he had his part in it).....I can go on.I’m curious as to how you view that he’s created a dumpster fire here? Were we not playing for a big 12 championship this exact time last season? Also, were we not 1 inch away from winning the big 12 championship and a playoff birth 2 seasons ago?
This new landscape of CFB is leading to a ton of chaos each season. Gundy has been spot on with his predictions of how things shape out. You will see teams win 10-12 games and then the next season win 6-7 all the time. CFB is turning into the NFL in a sense, things change so quickly every season.
Gundawg must really want to coach at Oklahoma State if he's willing to forego $25 million (or take a lesser buyout) and coach somewhere else.
