Gundy Not in Trouble….restructuring

He literally said he didn’t like the changes and refused to embrace them for two years. That’s not exactly a visionary leader in the landscape you’re talking about.

Not sure what you’re ‘curious about’ following a 3-9, winless conference season with a roster that played for a title the year prior. How bad would it need to be to cause you concern? 1 win, 2?
Well, I’d definitely be concerned if next season is similar to this one. That would begin to show consistency of a losing downward program. But like I mentioned, Oklahoma State has played for a Big 12 championship in 2 of the last 4 seasons.

Gundy has to adapt and make changes, I agree completely. This offseason and next season will tell us if he’s willing to make progress in the new landscape of CFB.

I think it says a lot about Gundy and his passion for Oklahoma State to not take the $25mil buyout and go elsewhere/retire.

Gundawg was far above all that NIL business. He's Saban without the championships and the willingness to walk away.

Will he really embrace the reality of college football recruiting? Does he have the people skills to deal with young players who demand money? I think we know the answer to that.

20-19 last three seasons...won 15 of our last 34 games...11-16 conference last three...
so let’s take out this season (which with Gundys proven track record over his career is a clear outlier and not a pattern)

2021-2023
Record: 29-12 and 2 big 12 title game appearances.

Like I’ve said, he needs to make some changes and adapt. If next season is like this or similar, then it beckoned a pattern and should be concerns. Let’s see what he does.

We’re up in arms when a former player, who rarely saw the field and left two plus years ago, makes overarching assertions, none of which can be backed up/confirmed.

But when players, both current and former, come out in support of him, it apparently doesn’t matter.

Clownish
I coached over a decade. Disgruntled players will come out of no where and paint false pictures. It’s a shame.

I agree. Maybe he’ll have a roster built to compete for a big 12 title and a CFP birth…🤔

But it's the most recent. And the post you responded to shows the pattern. He's still the HC, let's see what he can do. I don't have the faith you do, but it will at least be interesting to see.

It would be better if we had a full team of good players.
I think we have some good young talent. Let’s see how it shapes out. 2 new coordinators might bring some of their guys with them from the portal. This is what is great about the new landscape, we can flip this entire thing around next year. Just have to make the right hires and choices but it can be done.

I’m truly hoping so! This new landscape provides that opportunity. Everyone has to buy in though, including Gundy. I just feel like him accepting the new contract proves he’s willing to move forward on this NIL stuff and get things rolling.

This is a tired trope that just needs to die.

NIL will get you talent. We didn't have a talent problem. We had a coaching/culture/scheme/effort problem. This same team won 10 games the year before. These pathetic excuses need to stop.
We had unmotivated and jealous talent that more NIL could have helped fix. Absolutely would have improved our QB situation.

The point, that was missed, is that he had that and went 3-9.

Your dreams of Mr. ‘We haven’t changed anything around here in 20 years’ suddenly leading a mission to the moon is cute, I’ll give you that.

And the notion that ‘well golly, him accepting the only option he has’ is somehow a sign that things are going to get better? Geezus, this isn’t a local HS FB team.

Sounds good man, agree to disagree. Go Pokes!

Seems like a bit of an oversimplification but I get it 100%.

This was just the first step. Worst case, the record is set now and so are expectations, from how we operate, what’s expected of him in return, how he’ll manage personnel that the University is compensating, etc.

Had to start somewhere. Terminating him and dropping $25mil to do it would have been a noose on us for a decade or more.

I think the coordinators are the key. They need to be good with scheme, but also in the portal. If they do well there, then there's a chance next year.

you can't choose which seasons to select...I shall take away 2023 from my previous post...10-15 in two seasons, 4-14 in conference games...

Ok, so let’s go back to say 2017. What’s the record now? My main concern is consistency. If he produces another season like this one or even similar it begins a concerning trend.
