Stillwater Regional

During Gundy's tenure we have reached new highs in football. He established strong winning tradition from a team that was historically average. He beat Texas often and more recently Notre Dame, etc. It is more difficult for a school with limited resources and tradition to achieve what Gundy has. I think many here feel that OSU has a national reputation in baseball and a notable winning history and a brand-new stadium. I bet the consensus is that Holiday is underachieving. It is even more clear that Boynton is underachieving. It benefits all students and alumni to be excited and supportive of their sports programs and for the administration to not get too passive with expectations. There is potential to do better and there are things an AD can do short of firing the head coach.
Agree no question but doesn’t mean he absolve of criticism. Yes he’s taken the football to new heights…but at the same time 2011 was the programs peak just like 2016 seems to be the peak of baseball. Notre Dame is a nice win but let’s not act he beat a vintage notre dame squad in an era where players opt out of bowl games. Football has top 10 facilities over the years.

Point I’m trying to make it both deserve their share of criticism. At the end of the day, it’s about fan expectations. If you expect Omaha trips yearly, Holliday is underachieving, If you expect March madness trips annually , boynton is underachieving. I would say both have been. If you’re happy with winning seasons and having a bowl streak, gundy is right on track. Some fans might not be happy with one conference title in 18 years. Some fans might not be happy and that’s okay.

Within that, it comes down to this:
"Is that Coach and his staff maximizing the potential of their program?"

I don't think one men's coach can claim that right now. Gundy probably has the most right to say that over a long period of time.

The bats haven't been great this weekend, and we joke about solo HRs, but the truth if this offense raised its batting average as a team about .030 points from last year. This was a good offensive team.

Sometimes you have to win a game 3-1.

Offense wasn't the problem overall. The pitching staff was abysmal. A team ERA over 5 is in excusable. You can blame it on bad luck, injuries, or flat out on Rob--what whatever the problem is, this program will not sniff Omaha again until there is a massive improvement on the mound.
I think at minimum Rob has to go to get a new perspective. If there aren’t any changes then I’m not sure I’m going to watch anymore

What’s scary is that our “top 3” starters are all not going to be in a cowboy uniform next year. Not like they were young freshman adjusting for to the game. Hope we hit the portal hard and have better luck than we did with nut job JWB.
Also tho not to pile on, besides the facilities what is attractive about our program to highly sought after guys? They can either come here and make a regional or go to an Arkansas, Vandy or any other consistent proven Omaha clubs. The truth is the gap just continues to widen when you do shit like this. Perception matters.

That’s fair…still doesn’t mean we should shut up and be happy. Still about the fan’s perspective at the end of the day

I know we aren’t going to see it, at least for a couple more years, but it sure would be interesting to see what one of these ball coaches that wins consistently with significantly fewer resources could do if given what Holliday and crew have.
