Portal

The portal opens tomorrow. It will be interesting to see what happens. There are some talented people who might not get any mat time. Freshmen coming in later this summer may also cause some to portal later. I didn't know that we see too many incoming targets. We're really at as point where there are few realistic portal targets that improve the team. Maybe we see some action in upper weights.

I'm curious what happens with Tagen Jamison. I know his family and I've heard he is really happy at Oklahoma State but, and this is my own speculation I haven't heard anything, the mat time might be a little squeezed.

That is a tough weight, 141/149. Jamison and Swiderski are both there and there's the possibility of Vega/Forest moving up, Raney coming in, and Hughes.

LRob is a career 57
I thought it looked this year like the only guys he struggled to compete with were the guys that had a significant length advantage over him. I assumed that he would stick to 157 since bumping up would only make that worse.

In addition to Thompson, Jersey Robb entered portal.

I think DT let's anyone go anytime they want. Look at how Carter Young and Travis transferred late. So there may be a few leave in fall.

Given the recruiting, I just can't see a spot for Jamison, Cael Hughes, Sam Smith, or McComas, even though they are pretty good (and some have a shot at being AAs).

I don't see us picking up anyone in portal, though I could be wrong

At 285, we have top recruit in nation. Maybe we pick up someone to allow him to redshirt, but really has to be top guy.

At 149, had 8th place guy coming back plus stud recruit coming in (plus chance Vega moves up).

At 184, have 8th place guy who competed injured, plus have guy coming in with big upside. Unless we get a top 4 guy (Sinclair from Mizz), why bother.

At 165 and 174, have Lockett who clearly can wrestle (maybe he was at wrong weight and should bump up to 174), plus redshirt Rutledge who I think is very good (who can go at 165 if Lockett bumps up) plus Facundo who is solid. Will be hard to grt someone who improves situation.

I am a wrestling fan and I hope OU can at least get a decent program. With Taylor and the rise of OSU, OU has a real chance. There will be some pretty good Oklahoma wrestlers not good enough for OSU. If OU picks them up and maybe a few out of state guys they can be a top 15 program.

OU wrestling is not in the foreseeable future going to compete with OSU or PSU (or for that matter Ohio State or Iowa).

Some pretty good Oklahoma high school wrestlers (not good enough for us) are going to places like Cornell and Iowa State.

Several guys on bench at OSU are pretty good and if they want to wrestle, they need to transfer. For those like Jamison or Hughes who are from Oklahoma, OU if they get there act together, should be. a decent spot.

We NEED OU to have wrestling success. We cannot have a traditional top 6 blue-blood program continue to drop or they will drop the sport. That would be terrible for the sport. We need to encourage some success for them. The sport is bigger than bedlam hatred for their school

Besides it’s kind of cute they try to compete

I want their program to continue for the sole purpose of more future Bedlam bloodbaths.
