OC and DC Possibilities - New DC Todd Grantham, OC Doug Meacham

lol, not trolling. Yurcich had a top 20 scoring offense in 5 of his 6 years here, and he recruited Rudolph & Sanders. IMO, he’s the most underrated coach we’ve had during the Gundy era. I think I’m the only one that likes him. 😂
I liked him, but I couldn't understand his success. You could sit in the stands and call out the play 60% of the time and somehow the D couldn't stop it.

lol it’s sound logic. Retreads just rarely work out.

The thing that worries me about Marion is determining if the scheme is a gimmick or not. Haven’t watched enough film of it, but I can be convinced. Both games against Boise went south offensively.

I also hear Tom Herman is available. He stunk as a head coach but was a very good offensive coordinator. As a bonus, he and Gundy do like to yell at each other.

Offensive Coordinator:
Buster Faulkner - Top choice. Runs a pro-style, Shanahan-esque offense. Lots of motion, getting speed into space with a good run/pass balance. Watching him reminds me of watching LaFleur and the Packers.

Perhaps the only way to get him to OSU would be for a HCIW role as he will likely be a HC soon, and the North Atlanta Trade School can likely match any monetary offer.

I saw Buster as a player at Valdosta State. He led us to our first national championship appearance and was the QB coach for the 2007 championship team. He has strong Air Raid ties due to playing under Chris Hatcher who won the Harlon HIll Trophy at VSU playing under HC Hal Mumme and OC Mike Leach. He later was an analyst for Todd Monken at UGA.

I think you have to give Knowles a call if your Gundy. At least see if he’s interested in coming back. I feel like with all that’s went down, I’d assume we could get the money close? Idk, I could be wrong. Worth the try.

Defensive Coordinator:
Greg Gasparato - Top choice. Was really good at Troy, then followed it up with another great season at Tulane.
Jeremiah Johnson
Spence Nowinksi

Anthony Tucker - He just took a new role at Mississippi State, but he's a position coach. Could maybe steal him away for a promotion. Really should've been an OC this year. MSU got a steal.
Pipe dream: OC/HCIW Zac Robinson. Super unlikely, but this would be a great situation.
Buster Faulkner would be an elite hire! Love his offense!

I'd be fine with a HCIW designation, if that's what it took. He's a great coach.

How’s his coaching history prior to GT?

I agree we need to have a HCIW, gotta start getting prepared for the future for sure.
He's been all over, but the important part is that his background is entirely on offense. He's a former player, as @Georgia Poke alluded to, which I like as well. Hopefully, he'd open up that Georgia recruiting pipeline, as well. I don't remember who on our staff was the reason for it, but we used to have good luck recruiting Georgia. I'd love to get back to that.

Makes a lot of sense! He’d be big time for Oklahoma State!

He started out playing at Valdosta State under Chris Hatcher (Smart and Muschamp were on staff for two of his seasons). In 2002, he led the team to a 14-1 season with the sole loss being in the national championship game to Grand Valley State then coached by LSU’s Brian Kelly with Miami of Ohio’s Chuck Martin on staff.

Fabian Walker then transferred from Florida State to VSU. VSU’s QB coach was hired as the OC at Texas A&M Commerce, and Faulkner followed him.

After graduating, Faulkner came back to VSU as a GA and then went to UGA as a GA. He came back to VSU as the QB coach for the 2007 team that won the national championship. He was promoted to OC the next year and then went to Central Arkansas. He coached under Hatcher again at Murray State and then went to Arkansas State and Southern Miss before coming back to UGA as an analyst under Monken. He then took his current job at GT.

I’ve followed his career as I hoped he would pass back through Valdosta State as the head coach, but he obviously is on the path to being an FBS head coach soon.

Love it. Would be a home run hire! Not many out there better to learn under than Monken.
