OC and DC Possibilities - New DC Todd Grantham, OC Doug Meacham

It sounds like we're going after Charlotte's DC Ryan Osborn as our next D-Line coach. This means Paul Randolph is likely out.

Isn't it odd that we are hiring a D-Line coach before we get a coordinator? I saw a post somewhere on here that Gundy told the assistants that they would be able to interview with the new coordinator but he is making job offers without the coordinator. Seems a bit odd but maybe we have our DC and it is cool with them.

It definitely seems a little odd. I figured they would hire the coordinators first in case they had assistants they wanted to bring with them.

Osborn didn't have a very good year last year as Charlotte's DC. He may be quietly looking for a new job before getting fired. I like his NFL experience, but I'm not sure if he would be a good hire or not.

Charlotte is getting a new HC, so Osborn is probably out of a job. They just hired the guy from Ohio, so he will probably bring his DC.

They had reported that one hiring was imminent and the other was very close. Guess this means the DC hire was the one that was imminent.

Being a DC in the Big 12 can be brutal. A lot of good coaches won’t take that gig. Seems like most schools in the Big 12 change DCs every few years. Gundy has had seven DCs in 20 years. Two moved up, one quit, and four were fired. Derrick Mason and Manny Diaz are two examples of guys with strong credentials that were total failures in this conference.

I’m not sure it’s brutal anymore with OU and Texas in SEC and Tech (CJK5H), Baylor, TCU and OSU mere shadows of their former selves.

Ryan Osborn does not show up anywhere on my bingo card.

I am hoping Gundy hired him because he came highly recommended by those who should know. I hope Gundy didn’t just pull his name from a batch of resumes on Indeed. Osborn does look like a guy who would hunt and fish so he has that working for him.

Anyone subscribe to pokes report?

Yep, Todd Grantham is the reported DC hire. Current DL coach for the Saints. Lots of SEC experience with Florida, Miss St, Georgia, etc and NFL Dline experience.

I support this hire. Plenty of SEC and NFL experience. From what little I've read about him he runs a 3-4 and with SEC roots I'm hoping he'll run tight man coverage and be more aggressive. I NEVER want to see a 5 yard cushion again. It hasn't worked, it doesn't work, and it will never work.

I'm not sure about Grantham. He just got demoted to an analyst role with the Saints, and he may very well have been fired at the end of the year. He also go fired the last time he was a college defensive coordinator at Florida.

I'm sure he has a ton of knowledge with all of his experience, but I hope his best days aren't behind him.

Yeah. Looks like he went from really good first year (top 10) at Florida (last DC gig) to very meh (mid 70s) the next couple before being fired there.

I agree. I think he was fired at Florida during the season. He will probably cost a lot. He was one of the very first DCs to make $1 million/year, with Louisville under Petrino. Just demoted in NO from DL coach to an “advisory” capacity.

This reminds me of when Les hired Bill Clay.
