2024-2025 Portal Thread

I’ll say this about all the strife this has created within the fan base, there’s one thing about Oklahoma State, the people come together and fight like hell. Always has and always will. Go Pokes!! Let’s get after people.

Alright, I’m done haha!

You and I want the same things for all our programs, but sometimes we disagree on how to get there.

I’m a second generation OSU alum that grew up in Stillwater. Went to elementary school blocks away from campus and ran all over campus with a friend every afternoon waiting for our moms got off work at her job in the biochemistry department. Throwing the NERF football around on that old concrete turf at Lewis Field was one of our favorite ways to pass the time.

As a journalism student, I interned under Stev Buzzard and loved it. As a guy who grew up with OSU football posters on my wall-the ones where you had the team photo & individual coaches photos-it was heaven.

After leaving Stillwater for years, I returned and wound up working on campus and then in various capacities in the athletic department. Let’s just say that it’s not that big of a place, people talk.

I’ve known Mike Gundy since he was the QB. Know people that work with him every day and I still talk to them, and you’d know their names.

I say what I say here because I want the best for OSU and I believe it’s bigger than any one person. I saw what happened when Eddie became untouchable and nobody would say anything, and the disaster that followed. That can’t happen again, so I’m glad to see our leadership putting things back in line. There needed to be a serious reset here and they did it.

It’s not the same set of circumstances, thankfully, but , OU had to send Switzer packing because they knew things had to change. It’s what good organizations do. It’s a results oriented multi million $$ enterprise that simply can’t treat things like it’s the Myron Roderick days.

I’m encouraged by some of the hirings and hopeful that next year looks completely different. I’ve said that 7-5 would be enough for me to feel encouraged. I’ve also said that I have zero faith in Gundy getting that done and continuing to climb from there. I simply agree with you and that his time is coming to an end, and I believe he knows it. I don’t want to see us do with the FB program what we’ve done with the BB & wrestling programs.

Btw, I can still picture the poster from one of Jimmy’s years. That coaching staff, my god. Paul Jette, Wannestadt, Larry Coker, etc…
BIG BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SWITZER AND MIKE!!! Mike doesnt have an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator involved in a major cocaine selling operation, one Scott Hill, with his girlfriend and her associates! Also Switzer was being probed by the local FBI Ofgice in Oklahoma City regarding illegal gambling activities which David Swank and Donnie Duncan found out about in the Summer of 1988!! He danced around the FBI issue in his book Bootleggers Boy trying to make it sound like it was a big misunderstanding! I hated to see the addiction issues that first befell Eddie and then Shawn! Both unfortunately broke the law, Eddie with his DWI in which he almost killed a lady and Shawn with his attempts to obtain prescription drugs through DR shopping! 🤔

You clearly missed the point I was trying to make on a larger scale. I never implied that the situation was similar, other than the institution had to move on from a highly successful coach.
