2022-2023 Off-Season

Actually it won't require that much more for us since we pay less for a recruit visit compared to most schools. That is because the recruits (and their families) stay at the Atherton and eat much less expensive food compared to some other schools. The Atherton is the best hotel in Stillwater anyway and Gundy has said he does not go for the really fancy meals with recruits because he does not want them to get a warped sense of what college football at Oklahoma State will be like. In fact they do a lot of the recruiting meals from the same training table the players will be using if they come to OSU.
Hopefully with a boost to the recruiting budget, they can become a bigger player in this recruiting game so they can get those kind of players that really elevate the program. Osu is more than capable of having a 2011 type of year more than once a decade. Just have to make the investment.

My impression of our recruiting is that we focus on guys we want and who show genuine interest in playing for us, without wasting time and money begging a bunch of 4 and 5 stars recruits who have maybe a 5% chance of choosing OSU over a blueblood. The Atherton and meals thing makes some sense too. Would still like to see it a bit higher but the program has been successful, the last half of last season notwithstanding. It's the same reason I appreciate us not going all in on NIL, we'll never compete with the bluebloods, so we should be efficient with NIL, keep players happy and appreciated, but no bidding wars, the types of players who want that don't seem to be a good fit for our program anyway.

First, let me preface this by saying that anybody who thinks they know what we’re going to look like this fall is probably wrong. I have nothing scientific or evidence based upon which to make this projection other than I have a gut feeling we’re going to be a lot better than people think we are, or even that we think we are. Obviously, I could be totally wrong and we could be a complete train wreck, but I just have a strange gut feeling that we’re going to surprise everyone.

I guess we can see how this ages.

You are not alone. We stay mostly healthy and I think we make the conference title game.

The players and coaches share your mindset. The vocal minority convinced 3-9 is coming are exhausting.

He has made himself the clear cut QB1. He is showing veteran leadership and a pretty good arm. If we can protect him and get the right play calling I feel he will be a Chelf type good surprise at QB.
Do I hear a CCCMFC post coming soon?

Any group in particular standing out on D in spring? I’m so pumped we’re switching to this defense and honestly we have the right type of players to run it well once they all understand it. Oliver being split out and then at times walked down coming off the edge will be nasty. Daniels is your exact fit for a Rover safety. Then Kirkland at nose. Can’t wait to see them play.

Kirkland is looking really good but the other DL are also looking good. Starting LBs are also looking great but the depth behind them is a bit questionable at all 3 spots so hope we can stay healthy there. Defensive backfield has had its moments but also have given up some stuff to the WRs at times though. We actually probably have to much good depth in the defensive backfield and would not be surprised if one of them hits the portal to get playing time elsewhere.

Thank you!

All this talk of dominant DL makes me worry about the state of our OL. Based on recent performance, the concern is fully justified.

I'm 100% jaded, but I just can't see it. We have exactly 1 CCG appearance and 0 wins so far. The team lost a bunch of playmakers on defense and is breaking in a new defensive coach and scheme. We lost almost all of our (very, very meager) production on offense and will be starting either a complete newcomer, a true freshman, or a hybrid of QB's that have *some experience. Add on the fact that we haven't been mostly healthy in years.

I don't think we'll miss a bowl game this year, but the CCG seems like a real stretch. I'm not a masochist that loves seeing us lose like some on here, so I really, really hope I'm wrong.

The starting OL look good, the backups are a little shaky so far but are coming along. Most of them just need more reps as all.

The reason I say that is mainly the way the schedule sets up and how rough of a schedule most of the other contenders have. Go look at the path that most of the other better teams have to the title game and then compare it to us. I am also counting on the new teams to be beat up by the time they play us since they have not had to face a full year of power 5 games yet.

Also you need to adjust your thinking to the way the game is going to be from now on in that it will be pretty much a new team each year now with the transfer portal. You just have to do your best to bring in as good or better than what you lose. We look to have done that at most spots.

does bowman have get away from the cops speed? then probably not.
Hes no weeden either. He runs a 4.7 40 and has good pocket presence according to reports.

Gundy says he is similar to sanders inside the pocket, but chooses to throw instead of run when plays break down.

He will not be the top end running or deep threat though (obviously). We will need to have some sort of running game for things to work.
