Trump says remaining Bitcoin must be made in US

Former President Trump on Wednesday pushed for all remaining Bitcoin to be mined in the United States, marking his latest shift in support for the crypto industry.

“We want all the remaining Bitcoin to be MADE IN THE USA!!! It will help us be ENERGY DOMINANT!!!” Trump wrote Wednesday on Truth Social.

The former president argued domestic Bitcoin, which is acquired through an energy-intensive computational process called mining, could be the “last line of defense” against a CBDC, or central bank digital currency. The world’s largest CBDC pilot is currently being led by China.

Other countries are also planning domestic digital currencies, however the U.S. House last month passed a bill barring the Federal Reserve from issuing a central bank digital currency (CBDC) unless it has explicit authorization from Congress.

Trump’s Truth Social post also went after President Biden, claiming his “hatred of Bitcoin only helps China, Russia and the Radical Communist Left.”

The Biden administration has been cautious in its approach to cryptocurrency, during a period in which the sector has largely been defined by high-profile scandals that have hurt investors.

Biden signed an executive order in 2022 calling for government agencies to evaluate the risks and benefits of cryptocurrencies as it pertains to consumer protection, financial stability and illicit activity.

Trump’s post came a day after he met with leaders of several Bitcoin mining companies at his Mar-a-Lago estate on Tuesday.

His latest court of support from the cryptocurrency industry comes after years of his own skepticism over digital currencies

Trump, in 2019, said he was “not a fan of Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrencies, which are not money, and whose value is highly volatile and based on thin air. Unregulated Crypto Assets can facilitate unlawful behavior, including drug trade and other illegal activity.”

Earlier this year, the former president said he would not allow the creation of a central bank digital currency if elected, calling it a “dangerous threat to freedom.”

Instead of worrying about where mining bitcoin should be, I'd sooner presidential candidates focus on how to return manufacturing to the U. S. even though it would be a tall order. If it's not cheaper manufacturing costs overseas, it's AI and advanced automation taking over. More mining of industrial metals in the U. S., such as lithium needs looked at as well. We shouldn't have to wait until the need for it becomes a national emergency. Democrats should take the slogan "Make America Great Again" and make it specific with "Made In America Again".

Trump floats 'all tariff policy' to replace income tax

  • Donald Trump discussed the idea of imposing an "all tariff policy" that would ultimately enable to the U.S. to get rid of the income tax, sources told CNBC.
  • Trump also talked about using tariffs to leverage negotiating power over bad actors, according to another source in the room.
  • Trump championed tariffs during his first term in the White House.

Donald Trump on Thursday discussed the idea of imposing an "all tariff policy" that would ultimately enable to the U.S. to get rid of the income tax, sources in a private meeting with the Republican presidential candidate told CNBC.

Trump, in the meeting with GOP lawmakers at the Capitol Hill Club in Washington, D.C., also talked about using tariffs to leverage negotiating power over bad actors, according to another source in the room.

The remarks show Trump, who championed tariffs as a foreign policy multi-tool during his first term in office, is considering a drastically more protectionist trade agenda if he defeats President Joe Biden in November.

I am no financial expert but wouldn't this just raise prices overall on goods? Domestic producers will likely raise their prices because they can.

If so wouldn't this would cause the lower income families to spend more on goods than they are saving on taxes? It sounds like the rich are the only ones that would benefit from this.

It would have roughly the same effect as a national sales tax. Just like a national sales tax there would have to be some credits to help lower income families.

I disagree that it would have roughly the same effect as a national sales tax (both in revenue generation and effect on lower incomes) because a tariff would apply only to imported goods, but would provide cover for American made products (which would not be subject to tariffs) to raise prices as well, a national sales tax would apply across the board to all goods sold here.

Additionally, the way the tariff laws are set up right now, the President has quite a bit of leeway in invoking, amending, and rescinding them without approval from Congress. It's an incredibly bad idea to place that much power (if the US primary source of revenue generation was tariffs that could be changed easily) over the purse strings in the President....whom ever it is.

This is just another stupid musing of a stupid man throwing crap against the wall to see what sticks with his cultish followers.

All tariffs could be good if it works in a massive way to bring back manufacturing and make "Make America Great Again" more specific with "Made in America Again." Even if many jobs are replaced by advances in automation, it would help ensure America has a reliable source for the various things it needs.

I'll lose the debate on purpose': Trump tries to lower expectations for Biden showdown

How is this acceptable ??

"Haul out the Guillotine," Trump says in fundraising email

Former President Trump in a fundraising email on Wednesday wrote, "Haul out the Guillotine!," as he baselessly accused his political opponents of going after him and his supporters.

The latest: He later sent out another email with the false claim that "they" wanted to sentence him to death.

Why it matters: It's the latest example of the presumptive GOP presidential candidate's calls for violence and retaliation against his political foes
  • Trump last week said during an interview with Fox News on Wednesday that he'd have "every right to go after" his political opponents if he's elected in November.
Driving the news: Trump in the fundraising appeal mentioned comedian Kathy Griffin, who in 2017, received blowback over a photoshoot in which she held a replica of Trump's bloodied and severed head.

  • "Remember when that Sicko Kathy Griffin made the rounds parading my BEHEADED head when I was President?! The radical-left CHEERED!" Trump said in the fundraising email.
  • Griffin was fired from hosting CNN's New Year's Eve coverage in the wake of the incident, and earlier this year she claimed the Justice Department considered charging her for the stunt.
  • "The SAD and HORRIFIC TRUTH is that this is STILL the Sick Dream of every Trump-Deranged lunatic out there!" Trump wrote as he sought to rally his supporters.
  • "And it's not just me they want gone, THEY'RE REALLY COMING AFTER YOU!"
Trump on Wednesday evening sent a fundraising email with the headings "1 MONTH UNTIL ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE" and "THEY WANT TO SENTENCE ME TO DEATH!"

  • It added in reference to his sentence on New York charges: "You know they'd do it if they could, but Crooked Joe's team of lowlifes and radical left thugs will settle for a LIFE SENTENCE.
  • "If we fail to have a MASSIVE outpouring of patriotic support - right here, right now - they'll TAKE ME OUT and move on to their real target: YOU!!"
Zoom out: Trump, who was convicted last month in Manhattan criminal court, said in the earlier fundraising email that the guilty verdict "didn't make me flinch."
  • Trump, who was indicted in three other criminal cases, has repeatedly cast himself as the victim of politically motivated prosecutors and suggested that he would go after his political opponents if he wins in November.

Trump allegedly said: "Milwaukee, where we are having our convention is a horrible city."

That sounds like the needless rantings of a chronic poor, sore loser. Milwaukee County went for Biden by 69.3% to 29.4% for Trump.
