Top 5 new football coaches

You never know when you hire a coach. They may be good or bad. But if you hire a good coach who is successful without ties, he goes to better program which is very disruptive to program. If you hire guy with ties who want to be at OSU, maybe you get long run with him (as we did with Gundy). Old stock trading saying, "cut your losers short and let your winners run." Hiring someone who want to be at and stay at OSU gives you that option.
I’ve hired lots of teachers and coaches and I always went after the best I could possibly get. If you just go with the home town alum you limit yourself and it will cause a deformed culture. Best examples are Mike Gundy, Josh Holiday and Sean Sutton

There's a reason ZRob is an Offensive Coordinator at his age. You're looking at 3 games of a season, at the highest level of football, with a first year starter at QB.

Why don't you look at his body of work. Last year, in his first year, the Falcons had a top 6 offense. The year before, the Falcons were 17th. Before that, he spent 5 years under one of the best head coaches in the NFL, spending all of his time on offense and 4 of those years coaching the most important position on the field, QB. He may not be the most qualified, but the NFL sees enough to give him opportunities. I don't see why we shouldn't give him an opportunity, either. Especially if we can support him with a GM type role who can oversee the administrative stuff.
Massive difference between being an NFL OC and a P4 HC.

…And here’s Jenni with the ‘No $hit?!’ column.

My god, I’d forgotten how pitiful the OK sports media is.

Sorry, that’s loser mentality. Well never know who’s going to stay or go. We need to hire the best possible candidates we can and see what happens.
I’d prefer guys that Ohio State and Oregon come knocking for. That means we’re doing something very right. But I’d also add some new buyouts for my assistants. Those buyouts would be very clear too. The larger buyout amount is only in play if you get hired away and choose to leave. Not if you don’t perform and get canned.

Zero downside to interview him. Hell we flirted with Doug multiple times and he still had never coached at the time.

Knowles ain't moving back here, hes in the best position for himself at a top P4 program and close to family.

Like I have said elsewhere the best guy who fits the criteria is Eric Henderson and here is why.

Top Recruiter in the country (something we need in a HC)
SEC Ties (Born and raised in Louisiana)
Superbowl Champ (With the Rams)
Turned around USC Defense
Best D Line class the last 2 years even grabbing #1 player from Louisiana out from under LSU

Why not him? He has been in the league and had success and now is having success at USC after they walked into a dumpster fire with that defense. Young, energetic, and will flip the script for OSU quicker than anyone else would IMO.

Because there’s a big difference between being a Co-DC and running a P4 program that is of the level of Oklahoma State. I love Henderson and remember the days he was here. He has a very bright future but my ultimate concern would be that he’s basically only been a position coach. That’s a massive leap to leading Oklahoma State. Especially in our current situation.

Dabo Swinney was never even a Coordinator before he got Hired at Clemson. If you have everything else, and you've been around guys who are successful then I don't know why he wouldn't be able to run things here. He was under one of the most successful young coaches in Mcvay and now Lincoln Riley. I think he would be just fine.

Jon Gruden is currently 6/1 on getting the job. Now THAT would be an interesting fire. Only problem, he wants to coach in the SEC. I don't think we'd hire him, but I think he'd win games in Stillwater.

1. G.J. Kinne 3/1
2. Zac Robinson 4/1
3. Ben Arbuckle 5/1
4. Jon Gruden 6/1
5. Collin Klein 8/1

Listening to the National discourse on this, a lot of it has been ‘how good of a job is this?’ The response has generally been that if you’re a hot candidate, you wait for an SEC/B1G job, which makes total sense.

So I think you have to sell the idea that yeah, you can jump for the first opening in one of those leagues and probably get your head kicked in, or come to a league where you’re gonna have 2 CFP bids every year and have a chance to position yourself for a better job in those leagues if that’s your goal. Think Rhett Lashlee, Dillingham.
