It’s going to come down to who can recruit players and mold them into a team every year because better players will go elsewhere after a year here. There needs to be contracts for multiple years for a school like OSU to be competitive. NIL and open transfers need to be regulated.

I think with the current state of college football, you’re probably right that Monken nor Robinson would come here, but the chance is not 0%. It would take a large salary, basically equivalent to what we’re paying Gundy and it would also take some sort of meeting with major donors to express their intent to support the NIL effort sufficiently should that candidate come here. Anything short of that, especially with the NIL guarantee, and neither of them are going to consider coming to Stillwater!

Reports are that Zac gets in the $500,000 range a year with the Falcons, and Monken gets around $3 million with the Ravens. It would be a massive salary bump for either to get what Gundy is making.
But whoever we get, I hope one of the interview questions is whether it's important to learn the names of the players here instead of identifying them by their number.

Nobody is going to exchange a $3 million a year job for a $7 million a year job if they are not given the financial support and tools they need to be successful. 3 million a year for a long tenure is better than 7 million a year for two or three years followed by termination and damage to your marketability because of your failure to successfully field a viable college team through no fault of your own!
C’mon dude.
The only people turning down $7 million are ones making $7.01 million.

Just a thought I had earlier today. I’ve heard Arbuckles name mentioned here and in a couple articles that I honestly don’t know how reputable they are.
But……if somehow Arbuckle winds up in Stillwater, any chance of Mateer coming with him? Will he have another year of eligibility? Would he rather declare for the draft?

Dabo knows better than anyone out there what it takes to compete and be successful. That would absolutely be the kind of sea change shift in mentality we need desperately. I don’t think it’s even remotely viable though and not sure I don’t want some younger “full of piss and vinegar” guy anyway.
