Top 5 new football coaches

Everything true about Gundy is also true about Dabo. What exactly would the point be of bringing him on board?
Exactly. We need an energy hire who will embrace the new landscape and color outside of the box.

Energizing former well known players to aid in recruitment and game appearances would be a good addition too. Chuba, Dez, Warren, Weeden, Thomas, Toston, Gilbert, Barry, Okung, etc....anyone and everyone. Get them on campus and promoting ASAP. Dez would be target #1.

I like your take on this, & the AD with respect to former players who’ve gone on to the NFL.

A few thoughts.

First, OSU needs to hire someone with OSU connections. If OSU just hires the latest hot coach without OSU connections, he leaves to a better program if he is successful and we get stuck with a big buyout if he is a flop.

Second, given NIL, recruiting may be much less important than it was in the past. Instead, it may be more important to identify the talent you want to spend your limited funds buying. And do the X and O to get the most out of the talent you have. Maybe better to be good with donors who will contribute to NIL, than good with an 18 year old kid who will go to highest bidder no matter how good a recruiter you are. That to me makes NFL guys more suited for the job than historically.

Third, odd timing. Do they have a line on someone? Is the AD getting reports Gundy is a problem hurting team? Timing does not make sense to me.

I may catch a lot of heat for this but I’m not for hiring Z Rob. Love the dude and will support him if that’s the direction they go but I honestly think we can land someone better with college experience.

Josh McDaniels
Declan Doyle

Those are the OC'S whose offenses are ranked just ahead of the Falcons right now. If we hired any of these 3 how excited would you be?

Its awesome that Zac is on track to be a NFL head coach but if he had been the QB at Virginia Tech 15 years ago I don't think anyone here would be clamoring for him. Ill be 100% behind him if he is the guy but I don't think we need to hire the most qualified alum just because he is an alum.

Why this worry? You hire the best you can and if they leave you find the next guy find next man up. Gundy’s not wanting to hire coordinators is how we wound up here

You never know when you hire a coach. They may be good or bad. But if you hire a good coach who is successful without ties, he goes to better program which is very disruptive to program. If you hire guy with ties who want to be at OSU, maybe you get long run with him (as we did with Gundy). Old stock trading saying, "cut your losers short and let your winners run." Hiring someone who want to be at and stay at OSU gives you that option.

If he is successful that means we are successful. And you never know-we are night and day different as a program since les was here. The guy might stick around if its working. Not everyone wants to work for Bama.

Sorry, that’s loser mentality. Well never know who’s going to stay or go. We need to hire the best possible candidates we can and see what happens.

Amen!

And the reality now is that we’re in a second tier conference, but the plus is that a guy can look at that and see that there’s a path to the playoffs.

There's a reason ZRob is an Offensive Coordinator at his age. You're looking at 3 games of a season, at the highest level of football, with a first year starter at QB.

Why don't you look at his body of work. Last year, in his first year, the Falcons had a top 6 offense. The year before, the Falcons were 17th. Before that, he spent 5 years under one of the best head coaches in the NFL, spending all of his time on offense and 4 of those years coaching the most important position on the field, QB. He may not be the most qualified, but the NFL sees enough to give him opportunities. I don't see why we shouldn't give him an opportunity, either. Especially if we can support him with a GM type role who can oversee the administrative stuff.
