Why not go this route?

Henderson HC
Robinson OC
Doug Belk DC
Wright GM

Defense wins championships, and for all the people that think Henderson can't or shouldn't be the guy. People thought the same thing about Freeman at Notre Dame and he played for a Natty last year. Henderson will probably bring someone with him from USC or go get an NFL guy. I have heard some names 👀

Honest question - how much influence did KW have on assembling this year roster, losing players to portal from last 2 years?

No way Robinson would come here for anything less than the HC position. Its pretty unlikely he would leave the NFL but not a 100% no. Him going from NFL coordinator to college coordinator is never going to happen.

True there are other names, I meant that as if those who wanted an OSU guy on staff. To be honest not having an OSU guy I would rather have these guys:

Henderson HC
Spavital OC
Doug Belk/ NFL Guy DC
James Blanchard GM he's done a good job with the Texas Tech roster, would do better here with a guy like Henderson.

What's your deal with Henderson? Id be cool with him but he seems to be the only thing you post about.

I just think we go get a Top recruiter, and he's the top one on 247sports and could be available is all. I would even be okay with him being DC.

Per Pokes Report: Chad Weiberg told Dave Hunziker he wants a coach with college head coaching experience. That's big news if true because it would mean Zac Robinson & several other candidates aren't in the initial running.

I wondered when they made the move this early if it was because they were going after someone like GJ Kinne and they were worried he would already be gone if they waited until the end of the season.

It’s clearly to get ahead of the curve, & should be supported.
Imagine if they’d done it last December.
But that’s beating a dead horse…

1. Jon Sumrall-Tulane
2. Ryan Silverfield-Memphis
3. Jamey Chadwell-Liberty

Some of the reasons for the names on my list are that I think Weiberg is a pretty conservative AD and would want to bring in someone with successful head coaching experience and each of those guys fits the bill. I didn't consider any head coaches at any power 4 schools because I think the OSU job (as of right now) would be no better than a lateral move for any P4 head coach so I don't see a strong likelihood of getting a head coach from that level. I would assume we would have the resources to out pay Tulane, Memphis, or Liberty. I think all of these elements also factored into Weiberg's hiring of Lutz, who I am very optimistic about. My excitement for football has been squashed, I am excited for basketball now!

I suspected that Weiberg would want a college head coach. And my guess is that in his conservative nature he will want a head coach with a rather lengthy winning track record. I think this would eliminate someone like Kinne from the running because he hasn't been a head coach for very long. I would also remove Chadwell from my initial list because he is the most expensive of the 3 coaches and he is currently having a poor season. I think these leaves Sumrall at Tulane and Silverfield at Memphis as candidates that Weiberg would want to bring in if possible.

If he eliminates GJ without talking to him than he can leave with Gundy. Not saying that’s who I want but you have to at least talk to him.

I totally agree with you. I think Weiberg will do his due diligence to interview everyone who should be interviewed. I just think ultimately his hire is going to be a college head coach with at least 4+ years of head coaching experience.

Sumrall would be an awesome hire. He's had nothing but success at Troy & Tulane. There will likely be a lot of competition for him, though. A lot of people expect him to end up in the SEC.

What Chad says publicly and what he actually does could be two very different things.

Likely SEC Openings: Kentucky, Auburn, Florida, Arkansas. I feel strongly about our ability to attract talent against Kentucky and Arkansas, less so about Auburn. We are out classed against Florida.

Darkhorse Openings to consider: USC, Wisconsin, Stanford, Baylor

If we are being honest, Jeff Traylor checks all the boxes for experience and Texas ties. He would be an excellent hire and knows good talent as he trained will steins Oregon OC

He could coach for 7-8 years and groom a replacement.

Traylor has already said he's not interested in leaving, also he may be good but the last 2 years with his recruiting classes they have not been as good at UTSA and he's 2-2 this year so far.
