The Charleston Classic

Refs literally ruined the game. All of a sudden, playing the same d they played in the first half, they coming 20 or more fouls in the second half. I’m reminded why college basketball is the worst, it’s the ref show.

Fouls per game

Green Bay 34
St Thomas 34
Southern Illinois 33
Fau 57. 81 free throws and the most “fouls” by osu in a decade with 33.

Keep in mind the awful officiating took osu completely out of how they play, offensively and defensively. And they decided they were going to completely change they way the called the game in the second half.

It’s growing pain. When you miss a shot you can’t get back lazy on defense then pick up a boneheaded foul because you’re mad. ChiChi if he scores early he can take over, same as BT. Like Lutz said the past 2 pressers, we do not have an offensive alpha on this team. Bunch of 6-10ppg guys who love to shoot 3s but guys like Arturo and Newman need to be alphas. Speed and system experience is what they possess

During the game, my knee-jerk reaction was to be frustrated that we were not driving to the basket more aggressively and more often. However, when we did, outside of the numerous bricks, many shots were blocked or altered by FAU. Looking ahead, if we continue to be a poor three point shooting team that requires us to drive to the basket for the lion-share of our points, the Big 12 gauntlet is going to be painful with the size on the teams in our league.

I think the refs just got tired of running so they started calling fouls. If you can't keep up with the pace of today's game, maybe you should seek another profession.

Lutz in postgame:

"this needs to be a learning lesson."

"This is an internal problem that needs to be remedied in each person"

"Those are good officials, did we get every call? No. But that's karma when you don't play good defense."

"You don't do us any good if you're on the bench."

"I won't fault our effort, but we've got to play with discilplone and composure, not just effort."

Essentially, the refs took away our strength -- our tenacious defense. So it was an uphill slog. And I mean slog.

This kind of stuff happens in basketball. We have to learn to adjust on the fly. Some complain when the odds are stacked. Some power through.

Nothing about missing so many easy shots?

Disagree. I sat right behind the bench. Players played hard til the end. Coach was still drawing up plays til the very end. The bench was engaged. The attitude of the team is 180 compared to last year.
Forgive the analogy. I meant it as we couldn't hit shots when it mattered. No arguments at all about the effort and attitude.

I amazing part was how much we out rebounded them and still lost.
