Superintendent Ryan Walters defends decision to put 55,000 Bibles in Oklahoma classrooms koco

"You have so much on your plate as superintendent. Why is a plan that for many is so controversial so important to you?" KOCO 5's Evan Onstot asked.

"Because it's important to parents, and it's important to grandparents. When I went across the state and campaigned for office, I kept hearing them say, 'Our kids don't understand American history.' They don't understand the role the Bible and our Christian faith played in history. We have students who don't understand that our founders – Thomas Jefferson said our rights come from God. Because our teachers are scared to teach it. The Bible has been driven out of the classroom," Walters said.

*maybe we should just order Jefferson Bibles...*
I'm not sure about teaching our rights come from God make much sense, since the bible also teaches government comes from God. Yet many Christian Right parents think our current government comes from Satanists and Godless Marxists. Romans 13:

"Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore, one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience."

The above verse must also help explain where some politicians got the idea that God told them to run for office.

That kind of flies in the face of 2nd amendment being in place so people can fight back against government... and really any desire to fight the government.

Okla. Families, Teachers, & Faith Leaders File Lawsuit Against Ryan Walters’ Bible-Education Mandate

Don't worry! Teaching the Bible will fix this !!??

Oklahoma Ranks 2nd To Last In Nation With Average ACT Score Of 17.6
Oklahoma ranks second to last with an average score of 17.6, while Washington, D.C.'s graduating class of 2024 had the highest average score in the U.S. with 26.7.

As Ryan Walters’ right-wing star rose, critics say Oklahoma Education Department fell apart

Fans liken his efforts to a ‘spiritual battle,” but even some GOP lawmakers say he mismanaged and neglected his central role: state schools chief.

He has done exactly what he said he would do during his campaign and has acted the same as how he conducted himself during the run for the position. I don't know why people are surprised. Maybe everyone thought, nah, he can't be that much of a POS that doesn't really care about kids or the quality of education in Oklahoma... Whoops.

Like Trump will be "more presidential after inauguration"...? Hmmm

Part of me would like to hope that legislators are collecting all of these findings of complete negligence to build a case for impeachment but the other part of me knows they're not doing crap with it and we're just gonna be stuck with this prick till at least 2026...

.... unless Trump wins and brings him on as head of the Dept of Education

I am waiting for this to happen in OK.

For such people, stories about rape and incest, onanism and adultery, homosexuality and violent sex have no place on the bookshelves where children could find them. That is why they should demand that schools ban the Bible. In fact, a Utah parent is requesting that the Bible be banned in schools because, under a new state law, it is “pornographic.”

These reports are somewhat flawed since many states only have a small percentage taking the test. Usually only those students planning on going to college. Oklahoma has a 100% testing rate. It would be nice to see a better way to assess this. DC had 17% take the test.

Yeah, they take SAT instead for college in a lot of places. So it's an even smaller subset than college going students, it's those that are going to schools that prefer the ACT - I think both coasts prefer SAT.
