State Superintendent Ryan Walters endorses Paul Bondar for Oklahoma's Fourth Congressional District koco
Bondar also received an endorsement from the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association
Paul Bondar, a candidate challenging longtime Congressman Tom Cole, received an endorsement from Oklahoma's top educator.
In a video released on Friday, State Superintendent Ryan Walters threw his support behind Bondar, who is running for Oklahoma's Fourth Congressional District.
"I'm proud to endorse Paul Bondar for U.S. Congress. We have got to get Paul to D.C. to fight with President Trump; to abolish the Department of Education; drive the radical, woke agenda out of our schools and get parents back in charge of their kids' education," Walters said in the video. "Paul's the man to do it. He will fight back against Joe Biden's radical agenda. So, I'm proud to endorse Paul."
Bondar's website does not have a tab outlining his stance on education issues, but the businessman said in the video with Walters that "it's time to start fighting for our schools, our kids, return to common sense and normalcy."
When Bondar spoke with KOCO 5, he discussed how Oklahoma is low in education rankings but did not get into any education policy.
Bondar also received an endorsement on Monday from the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association.
"Lawmakers have a legal and moral obligation to uphold the tenets of the U.S. Constitution, and Tom Cole has failed us," OK2A President Don Spencer said in a news release. "Every citizen in Oklahoma deserves a Representative who will advocate for their Constitutional rights, not undermine them. Cole voted for a left-wing Red Flag Law that denies law-abiding Oklahomans their God-given right to protect themselves and their families. It’s imperative to support candidates like Paul Bondar when Biden is trying to grab our guns and Cole is part of that operation. Paul Bondar has proven that he will be a champion for conservative voters."
The endorsements come amid a heated campaign leading into next week's primary election. One of the biggest talking points is Bondar's relatively recent move to Oklahoma, which the candidate said is a calculated distraction to avoid the issues.
"I wanted him to stand on his 22-year record," Bondar said about Cole, who has served Oklahoma's Fourth Congressional District since 2003. "If his 22-year record was good, I wouldn't be here. I wouldn't have to run."
Cole said he's ready for wherever this primary fight goes.
"It's a little bit like a bar fight. The guy with the most money doesn't win. The guy with the most friends does, and I have a lot of friends," Cole said.
Voters will decide between Cole and Bondar as well as Nick Hankins, Andrew Hayes and Rick Whitebear Harris when they cast their ballot on June 18 for the Republican nominee for Oklahoma's Fourth Congressional District.
