Gundy is out…..

Well if what’s reported is true and they offered him the chance to finish the season and leave on his terms, and he refused, there you go.
Sounds like‘OL Loyalty & True didn’t want to be a lame duck for a couple more months.
In his presser, Weiberg said he did not have a conversation about Gundy finishing out the season.

On a positive note, Mike will be going to the college football Hall of Fame at some point. (Justin Blackmon went last year!) If Frank Solich can make it, Mike certainly can.

Unless Doug Meacham can play offensive line (all positions at the same time), I don't think we'll see a lot of improvement.
Not having an Oline is all the more reason you spread it out, throw it around, get the ball out quickly and use the QB run game. Many have claimed that it was Gundy handcuffing Dunn and now Meacham making them call those frequent run plays up the middle and being ultra conservative. We shall see…

That would be disappointing if they didn’t at least offer him that opportunity to announce his retirement but finish out the season. I’m still not sure though as Chad seemed to be very careful with his words. He also said he had not approached any donors about the buyout, but we all know that there were donors involved in this.

Chad was very positive about the finances of the athletic dept and football team itself. He mentioned being very comfortable with what is being invested in the roster and how it compares to others. With Chad being a fundraising guy, my guess is it was becoming more and more difficult to secure additional support and why the decision was made with urgency, to re-engage some of those funding sources.

I noticed that too. He didn't approach any donors, but I wonder if any approached him and offered to foot some of the bill.

I hope the team has a good week of practice before the Baylor game. I imagine it's pretty tough though.

Meh, I won’t be shocked if the team gives an incredible effort in the face of the events.

Also heard discussion today about Gundy, & also the VT job and how players have 30 days to transfer. Guess there was discussion about whether VT would be able to field a team.

Yep. The way I understand is they can stay with the team or go into the portal and red shirt the season. Does that sound right?

I hope the guys play well on Saturday. Maybe some fire from a new coach will create results. It's a home game. It will also be interesting to see if we have a full house.

One good thing about paying players is if they leave that paycheck stops. For most of them, it would be in there best interest to play and get paid, and for those that aren’t seniors, play well for tape and potential earnings next season.

This should be the shortlist and we should focus on a younger guy with energy who is a top recruiter. We need a guy who can get kids to buy in and have them wanting to come turn the program around.

Shortlist:

Rhett Lashlee look what hes done at SMU
Alex Golesh turned around a horrible USF program
Kenny Dillingham track record speaks for itself
Eric Henderson USC Co-DC Super Bowl Champ Top recruiter in the country and young with energy would bring NFL guys with him on staff like Deion at Colorado

Lashlee isn't leaving SMU for a non P2 job and Dillingham is at his dream job.

Henderson is intriguing. I know there are differing opinions on how directly involved the new HC should be with regards to day to day NIL and recruiting conversations but I can't help but think the guy who was arguably one of the best recruiters to set foot on campus would be pretty good at that stuff.

Exactly! But people can't look past the "Played at OSU" fact so they keep bringing up Robinson. I'm all for Loyal and True but with the ever evolving college landscape, which is looking more and more like the NFL we need a guy who has been there and won and is now in college winning and also recruiting/signing top talent. I have looked and don't see another coach who just won a Super bowl and is now at a top program recruiting top talent anywhere.

Playing here should have no influence on the decision. If Zac comes here, does well, and 2 years later the Packers come calling, do you think he's gonna say nah, loyal and true to the bone, or do you think he will look at an opportunity that is best for him?

Understanding culture is a bonus but I want the best HC regardless of if they were here or not.

I am with you and I hope OSU at least interviews Henderson.

What I heard during the press conference was Chad stating he didn't have that conversation (announcing his retirement) with Gundy that morning, seemed to imply it could have happened prior to.
