That'll be a huge technical boom for China when they nationalize the foundries because they are behind right now. Russia would love that too because it'll simplify their access to modern tech.

As a federal worker who is 9 months, 14 days from my earliest possible retirement, I'm probably being overly anxious but this has me scared $#!tless. Especially if the Rs control both chambers and Trump really does put Elon in charge of "efficiency" or whatever he called it.

At least you may be able to ride it out before any substantial changes get implemented. I've still got like 20 years to go and might be in a position that the new administration would want to reclassify as schedule F based off the Project 2025 plans which I think is my worst fear.

Logistically, as a new manager, I'm more worried about an immediate return to office mandate as I know at least 3 of my folks would leave, and we struggle to find qualified employees as it is.

Don't mistake fatalism combined with a belief that the Republic will "survive" (notice I didn't say "thrive"/"flourish" or anything like that) as "optimism".

I'm too concerned about the effect this will have on the women in my life and all my queer friends as well. I'm definitely a prepare for the worst and be pleasantly surprised when it doesn't happen kind of guy. That's not necessarily "optimism".

I don't think we will turn into Gilead in the next fuor years, and if we do.....I have the means and ability to expatriate myself and my family (3 adult daughters all in their 20s) elsewhere (a couple of elsewheres, actually) if necessary. I don't think it will come to that, but I have a plan if it does. It's a plan that I may still enact when I retire whomever is in power....and I could pull that trigger earlier if needed.
