Ukraine. Ukraine. Ukraine.

Our territory......what happened to Ukrainian sovereignty?
Good grief, Putin has NOT physically attacked us. However, they have meddled in our elections and fight a constant cyber war with us. If I didn’t make it clear enough for you: give Ukraine the tools it needs to take its land back. Just like WE as a nation promised to do. Politics used to stop at the oceans shore. But with the current dithering old criminal in charge, or his Musk proxy our country’s WORD means considerably less. Deal with it.😂

There some context being put to this that just isn't there. Saying that "Russia lost a lot of soldiers and will more than likely not give up what they have taken" isn't the same as saying "they lost a lot of soldiers and deserve to keep what they have taken."
Saying either of those is effectively the same thing when said prior to a negotiation about that very land.

If you were negotiating about a car and really wanted the car so were maybe willing to pay up to $10k but the seller says "I know you wouldn't pay more than $9k" would that change your negotiation plan?

Ukraine will not agree to any peace deal proposed by the US and Russia without its involvement, President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned, after Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin pledged to begin talks to end the war.

"We cannot accept it, as an independent country," Zelensky said.

The US president had talked of a "good possibility" of ending the war after he and Putin spoke by phone. It was not "practical" for Ukraine to join Nato, Trump said, and "unlikely" it could return to its pre-invasion borders.

Russian Drone Attacks Hits and Sets Fire to Chernobyl’s Containment Shield Feb 14th 2025

A Russian drone struck the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant early Friday, setting fire to the shelter that contains radiation from the site of the largest nuclear disaster in history, according to Ukrainian officials.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the fire had been extinguished and no increase in radiation levels had been recorded. Speaking to reporters at the opening day of the Munich Security Conference, Zelensky said the drone flew at about 280 feet, below radar level.

“The blow to the sarcophagus was very dangerous,” he said. He also wrote on social media that the damage was significant.

Videos posted by Ukrainian officials showed a large explosion igniting a fire on the containment shell at around 2 a.m. Photos and videos showed a hole in the outer layer of the structure.

The containment shell was installed in 2016 to enclose radiation from the power plant’s reactor 4, which exploded in 1986, sending plumes of radiation across Europe.

The International Atomic Energy Agency, which monitors nuclear safety, posted on X that its personnel at Chernobyl had heard the explosion, but that there was no indication that the inner containment shell had been breached. The agency said radiation levels remained normal but warned that military activities around nuclear power stations in Ukraine posed risks.

Kaja Kallas, the vice president of the European Commission, condemned the attack. “It shows once again that Russia is not looking for peace,” she wrote on X.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he had no detailed information about what happened, but he denied any Russian attack on nuclear infrastructure. “This is most likely another false flag manipulation,” the Russian state news agency TASS reported him as saying.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion three years ago, Ukraine’s nuclear facilities have repeatedly become combat sites.

In the first weeks of the war, Russian forces occupied the Chernobyl plant and drove armored vehicles through some of the most contaminated parts of the exclusion zone, kicking up radioactive dust. Before retreating from the site in the spring of 2022, they ripped monitors off the plant’s walls and left the site covered in graffiti and human feces.

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant—the largest nuclear power station in Europe—has also been the site of repeated explosions and skirmishes since Moscow seized control of it. Located in the city of Enerhodar along the Dnipro River, which divides the Russian and Ukrainian forces in the area, the plant is perilously close to the front line.

Russia has militarized the power plant site. It has stationed hundreds of troops there and launched rockets at Ukrainian positions. Ukraine, meanwhile, launched repeated raids on the site in an unsuccessful effort to retake the plant in 2022, according to multiple soldiers who took part in those operations.

Several other Ukrainian nuclear plants have been threatened by drones and other munitions.

“These ongoing threats continue to jeopardize the nuclear safety and security of nuclear power plants,” Rafael Grossi, director of the IAEA, said last month in an update on the status of the Ukrainian nuclear plants. “No one stands to gain from attacks on nuclear facilities.”

Russian attacks on Ukraine’s electric grid have, in part, prompted Ukraine to embark on an expansion of one of its nuclear power plants, in the western Khmelnytskiy region. Zelensky visited the site on Thursday, and he announced this week that the expansion will allow Ukraine to operate its grid without importing electricity.

“Nuclear energy is the backbone of Ukraine’s electricity supply—it ensures we have light, power and life,” Zelensky said. “I believe it has, in many ways, helped preserve our state, especially through these three difficult winters.”

U.S.-Russia Talks 'Obsolete' After Chernobyl Drone Strike

MUNICH — The European Union’s top diplomat said that any talks between the United States and Russia were now “obsolete” following a drone strike at Ukraine’s Chernobyl nuclear power plant that Kyiv blamed on Moscow.

“It clearly shows that [the Russians] don't want peace,” EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas told journalists on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. “All these other talks have been totally obsolete because of the bombing of the nuclear station, bombing of civilians, bombing of civilian infrastructure.

“What is up to us right now is to decide and discuss how we support Ukraine right now in this endeavor because our values haven't changed, the goals of Russia haven't changed either, so we need to stick to our ground and really see what is at stake here.”

Earlier this week at the NATO defense ministers' meeting in Brussels, Kallas had accused U.S. President Donald Trump of “appeasement” following his conversation with Russia’s Vladimir Putin and stressed that any peace deal must be negotiated with European and Ukrainian involvement.

Trump’s Vice President JD Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are expected to meet Friday during the three-day conference in southern Germany. Zelensky told journalists on Friday that he did not believe Washington had a “ready-made plan” to end the war.

Donald J. Trump’s decision to placate Putin and shun Ukraine is nearly equal to Neville Chamberlain’s appeasement. Anyone now denying a Trump/Putin love fest? Gotta cut everything we can to give the ridiculously wealthy another HUGE tax cut. Even if it makes our country’s WORD null and void. 🤢🤮🤬

Ukraine not invited to US-Russia peace talks, source tells BBC

Kyiv has not been invited to talks between the US and Russia aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, a senior Ukrainian government source has told the BBC.

The US special envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg had said Kyiv would be involved in Monday's talks in Saudi Arabia, but the source said no delegation would be present.

European leaders have also not been asked to join the discussions, and are due to meet instead on Monday in Paris at a summit hastily arranged by the French president, as fears grow the continent is being locked out of negotiations.

The separate meetings follow a turbulent week where Washington has signalled a drastic change in its approach to the war in Ukraine.
The White House's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed he was travelling to Saudi Arabia on Sunday evening for the first face-to-face talks between the US and Russia towards ending the conflict.

US President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that Witkoff had met with Putin already "for a very extended period, like about three hours".

Witkoff, a billionaire real estate developer and friend of Trump, was in Moscow this week to secure the release of a US teacher imprisoned on charges of marijuana possession.

I don't mean foe this to be a literal comparison of us to nazi Germany but doesn't this seem like them and Rissia divvying up Polamd?

Summary - BBC

1. Purposefully negotiate only with Russia which makes no sense.
2. Announce deal, get accolades from supporters, claim peace/victory
3. Know that a unilateral deal will be ignored by Ukraine and Europe
4. When the deal inevitably falls through, stop all US aid, leaving Ukraine to fall to Russia or for Europe to take over.

Seems like their plan

So Trump has said Ukraine shouldn't be in NATO and that's part of his peace plan.

What happens if in 4 years the next president starts the process of them joining anyway? Its years after the conflict ends and they start the process to join, does Russia invade again? At that point they are kind of in a protected position and probably have 1v1 ptotection agreements with a lot of the NATO countries.

This is good. Need Europe to step-up military/defense support for Ukraine. We provided 6x more in defense funding for Ukraine than any Europe country over the last three years. And with total aid (including humanitarian, etc) we are about even with Europe as a whole.

it´s good also, because ´we´ seem to be turning our backs on them...

This is going to cause nuclear proliferation.

What incentive does Ukraine or Poland in particular have to not pursue nuclear weapons for self defense if the US nuclear umbrella is not there to protect them?
