Trump 47

Bring on the banking fees!!!!!!!
As with most things involving government agencies it’s actually doing more harm than good.

In fiscal 2025 the CFPB will cost taxpayers an unnecessary $1 billion. These funds are being spent on antimarket enforcement actions and regulations that actually harm consumers. And the CFPB is performing a function that could be done more efficiently by other agencies.
Mr. Trump should go a step further and shut the CFPB down. As I pointed out in these pages in May, the bureau is operating illegally. Congress mandated that it be funded by the earnings of the Federal Reserve, but there have been no earnings since the Fed began incurring losses in September 2022 due to rising interest rates. These losses currently total $219.6 billion. The CFPB’s defense, in 13 pending enforcement cases where defendants have raised the illegality of funding, is that “earnings” really means revenue, an absurd claim under accounting standards. It is telling that the Fed, the source of illegal funding, has been silent on

Like everything, it all depends on who you ask. There are other articles showing that they have prevented billions in bank fees per year, certainly not a harm. Being a banker, it is no surprise which side you come down on. Maybe if the industry didn't start adding all these scam fees, we wouldn't need a government agency to reign them in.

The Plot Against America

How a Dangerous Ideology Born From the Libertarian Movement Stands Ready to Seize America

Theil, Yarvin and Hans Herman Hoppe are not libertarians. Yarvin and Theil are neo-reactionaries (Yarvin wants to bring back the monarchy FFS), and Hoppe is a paleoconservative (he calls himself a conservative).

But yeah, they are dangerous people.

There was a pretty good thread on r/conservative over the weekend. I know, shocking! The mods actually let unflaired users post without ban for pretty much the first time ever. The goal of the thread was essentially to air out grievances from both sides, and hopefully to find some middle ground.

I took 2 things away from it:
  1. We all basically want the same thing - a strong country where people are given the chance to prosper
  2. Money out of politics - this was by far the #1 thing everybody seemed to agree on
How we get #1, and who the people are, seems to be where the biggest differences lie.

I want wasteful spending to END in government just as much as every single conservative on this board. But handing the keys over to an unelected person with personal stake in the outcome is NOT the answer.

Have any of you stopped to ask why he's gone so hard after USAID? It's less than 1% of the budget, yet Musk is spending tons of time and effort convincing you it's the worst program in history, rife with corruption. Ok, great. Let's see the audit and where the corruption was so we can be a more informed populace about what's really going on. If we can't get that transparency, then I am convinced that cutting USAID is for nefarious reasons.

What you @CowboyJD and @steross think of Libertarian actually doesn’t exist anymore. I know you guys are close but as a party that no longer exists on the national stage.

Disagree. While the Mises Caucus took over the LP the last 4 years or so, they were unable to get their candidate nominated, weren't despite their best efforts able to throw their support behind Trump (he got 3 of 700 votes at the convention), and now it looks like the classical liberal/pragmatist caucus is regaining control of the party.

They were the group that got Gary Johnson as the party's nominee in 2016.

A lot of people call themselves libertarian when they are just conservatives that are too embarrassed to call themselves conservative. It doesn't mean the meaning of the words have changed. It means the people using them are deluded.

I think they were looking into Starlink usage in Ukraine (possibly why/how Russia has also been using it).

The Trump administration says a temporary restraining order blocking political appointees and special government employees—aka Elon Musk’s baby-faced team—from accessing the system is a “remarkable intrusion” on the executive branch.

New in PN: Trump and his lawyers embrace the logic of dictatorship

"The arguments being made by the administration boil down to this: if Trump wants to do it, he gets to. Their stance appears to literally be that laws are irrelevant in the face of Trump’s wishes and the courts can’t stop him."

In a newly released clip from a sit-down interview with Fox News host Bret Baier, Pres. Trump said Palestinians would not have the right to return to Gaza as he laid out his proposal for the U.S. to "own" Gaza.

I think that's definitely part of it.

These people are going to need money / help from somebody to survive (and hopefully thrive). So...
  1. They get aid from another government (probably China)
  2. They get aid from private sources (read: Elon Musk)
  3. They get no aid and suffer horrific consequences
I have to assume the goal is a combination of 2 and 3. Let these countries crumble so uncle Elon can come in and buy it all up for next to nothing.

I'm curious to see how our farmers feel when those sweet sweet govt handouts stop coming in. I'm sure they will find a way to blame Obama, DEI, Biden, Clinton(s), and transgender girls playing volleyball in college.

This is about 95% of people I’ve met that said they were libertarian.

Elon will not provide support. He doesn't do charity work, not enough profit there.
I dont see long term support for US farmers going away. That would destroy MAGA support.
