To be fair, 2022 was the result of inflationary spending by the federal government in a post covid economy. That was going to be a bumpy ride. Now we had a decent economy the current president is trying to burn to the ground because he thinks the Canadians were screwing us somehow. One of the adults in the room was supposed to be the commerce secretary but his presence hasn't worked out really well. Based on other things the administration has done so far, it's a fair assumption that potential damage to the economy is being caused by a combination of incompetent leadership and a desire to intentionally wreck things to give the wealthy cheaper buying opportunities.

So yeah, if you want to look at 2022 and shrug but panic now, it's probably a logical way to process the situation.

President Trump on Wednesday announced tariffs on practically every foreign country (and some non-countries), ranging from a 10 percent minimum all the way up to 50 percent. He described the tariffs as reciprocal; however, they are nothing of the sort.

So they released the formula for how the tariffs were set, apparently they did the math way wrong.
