Trump 47

Key Points

  • The U.S. “public debt outstanding” of $33.2 trillion often cited by media is largely misleading, as it includes $6.8 trillion that the federal government “owes itself” due to trust fund and other accounting. The economics profession has long focused on “debt held by the public”, currently equal to about 98 percent of GDP at $26.3 trillion, for assessing its effects on the economy.
  • We estimate that the U.S. debt held by the public cannot exceed about 200 percent of GDP even under today’s generally favorable market conditions. Larger ratios in countries like Japan, for example, are not relevant for the United States, because Japan has a much larger household saving rate, which more-than absorbs the larger government debt.
  • Under current policy, the United States has about 20 years for corrective action after which no amount of future tax increases or spending cuts could avoid the government defaulting on its debt whether explicitly or implicitly (i.e., debt monetization producing significant inflation). Unlike technical defaults where payments are merely delayed, this default would be much larger and would reverberate across the U.S. and world economies.
  • This time frame is the “best case” scenario for the United States, under markets conditions where participants believe that corrective fiscal actions will happen ahead of time. If, instead, they started to believe otherwise, debt dynamics would make the time window for corrective action even shorter.

I know a bunch of Clowns on here will zzzz this but this is what we are looking at. Less than 20 years before the American experiment dies a cold broke death without major change.

1) You do not represent Donald Trump—you represent the United States of America. This statement is fundamentally anti-American.

2) Not only is this statement absurd and wrong, but it’s also grammatically incorrect. Trumps’?!

This is an unserious administration —

Q: “Why did you choose an underqualified retired lieutenant general to be the next chairman of the joint chiefs of staff."

Pete Hegseth: "I'm going to choose to reject your unqualified question."

CIA in damage-control mode as DOGE dismissal emails go out to people who were supposed to be undercover.

DOGE now using Elon Musk s AI to determine what jobs need to be cut and which employees need to be fired

UPDATE: Responses to the Elon Musk-directed email to government employees about what work they accomplished over the past week are expected to be fed into an artificial intelligence system to determine whether those jobs are necessary or not, sources say.

Finally something the Libs on here can get behind that Trump is doing.

By libs you mean people with common sense. Someone is on a psych hold and they have to be determined to be capable of being around a firearm before they get it back. I have alot of questions on how they will enact this but it's not unreasonable to say people who are a danger to themselves or others shouldn't be around firearms.

I wonder how the hardcore 2A people who were convinced Obama was gonna take their guns will react to Trump taking their guns though.

Checks calendar. They have had 100 years to dig into this nonsense and make cuts to the bureaucracy. All they have done is grow it the entire time. Not just dems Both parties. Extreme partisans LOL, over 70% of the population support's what DOGE is doing. They don't seem to GAF how radical it is. If you are fighting it you are in an extreme minority.

The federal workforce has been relatively stable since 1968. It has not grown.

Has the budget grown? Yes. But not bureaucracy.

Plus, DOGE approval is -15 at this point. And that is before they start attempting to mess with entitlements. So it is not a popular action right now.

What I dont get, is that so many of these moves are widely unpopular. From -15 for DOGE to -50 for Gaza and the abandonment of Ukraine.

Continuously doing incredibly unpopular things is going to backfire. If it keeps up, it is going to start peeling republicans off of his base and congresspeople from supporting his administration.

Latest DOGE polling. Seems like a really popular program to me. Maybe the only government agency the people support overwhelmingly.

Everyone wants a trillion in cuts when you don't say where the cuts come from. Especially if you just say it comes from "efficiency." Who in their right mind wouldn't want that? I want that.

Make this poll realistic:
-Are you concerned about the debit enough to cut health care to veterans?
-In 1973 Medicare was 3% of the Federal Budget. Now it is 14% of the budget. It is projected to be 20% by 1950. Do you want that to increase that way or do you want to cut Medicare?
-Social Security trust fund has 10 years left. Do you want to raise taxes to cover that, decrease benefits or increase the age, or make people pay on all their income?

Those are the kinds of decisions that have to happen. They have done a great job making it look like they can fix this with efficiency. That is a joke. And they know that.

Trump has exempted DOGE from the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) by placing it under the Presidential Records Act. So much for transparency.

Beginning Friday night, FDA employees overseeing medical devices and other key areas received calls and emails notifying them that their recent terminations had been “rescinded effective immediately,” according to messages viewed by The Associated Press. https://to.pbs.org/417Tb42

Those folks are not happy

Mark Alford (R-MO): Elon Musk has contracts with the federal government, but he is also, I think, doing an effective job at weeding out the waste, abuse, and fraud in the government.

Constituents: BOOO!!! SHOW ME!!! CONFLICT OF INTEREST!!! HE IS THE WASTE, FRAUD, AND ABUSE!!!

The Trump administration is developing plans to build immigration detention facilities on bases nationwide, a step that could significantly expand the military's role in immigration enforcement.
