Trump 2024 Run Thread

I honestly didn't care about this one. I'll be on @SanditeCowboy's side here a little bit. If it wasn't Donald Trump and he wasn't running again, this doesn't make much of a splash. His lawyer paid off a porn star and they tried to hide it. Yawn.

Now the next couple of trials, the election interference ones, are incredibly important. He should rot in jail for those and be disqualified from running for president.
Of the 3 trials he is to undergo..THIS one was considered the weakest...the evidence on the other two is overwhelming

The mass media has gone too far allowing this whiny sob free air time for seemingly hours. Liar, liar pants on fire!
And Biden is not going to win Oklahoma. I'm less concerned with who is going to take votes from who and more interested in the "does this person represent the majority of my views and values" question. Chase Oliver does those things.
Then by all means throw your vote away and help elect a felon.

Will any of the other trials take place before the election though? Unfortunately the classified documents case, which is probably the most open and shut and incredibly serious, the judge is in the bag for Trump and delaying every chance she gets. There's a near zero chance that will happen before the election.

By your same logic, you are throwing your vote away by voting for Biden in Oklahoma.

I don't buy that line of thinking whatsoever. That line of thinking has gotten us the douche vs turd sandwich since 2000. And our presidents continue to go downhill thanks to that.

Breaking the Law is now a Trivial matter???

View attachment 4977
1. Trump had an affair with a porn star and tried to cover it up by paying hush money
2. He broke the law by adjusting business records to hide payment and reason for payment
3. Being a former President should not protect him from consequences of not following the law. He deserved his guilty verdict.
4. Biden was not involved, but Bragg charging him was 100% politically motivated. He would not have been charged if he was a regular person.
5. People still supported Clinton after having an affair and lying about it under oath. People will still support Trump.
6. Trump correctly received a guilty verdict, but for this particular case “trivial” is an applicable term.

All of the above can be true.

By your same logic, you are throwing your vote away by voting for Biden in Oklahoma. We don't elect presidents by popular vote.
Unfortunately that’s true. The electoral college makes a minority a majority far too regularly. That’s why the Republicans love it.

Probably not. But I don't think they should be rushed for that reason. A sitting president called state AG's and asked them to "find votes" for him. His team created fake electors. Among other things. Talk about unprecedented. Those are the things he should sit in jail for. And those trials are not "politically motivated."

Elon Musk bootlicking the dude who just said he'd ban electric cars if he regains office. What a clown he turned out to be.
It's amazing how the very rich can display such bad judgment. Oh, well, it seems the richer you get the more foolish risks you may take. Trump has been big over that. Anyway, Trump needs to get with Musk to tell him that if he gives him a few billion dollars for his campaign, then he will drop his desire to ban electric cars and think of ways to promote them, such as offering the biggest rebates ever for buying them for starters. After all, if it doesn't get overruled, Musk has a $46.5 Billion Tesla pay package coming to him.

I doubt Trump supporters, many to which giving him $100 is a big deal, would mind Trump politically indebting himself heavily to the very rich. They could still hate electric cars enough to not ever buy any.

Sorry I was going by the actual definition of the word trivial

Which is defined as little value or little importance

I think the outcome is trivial in support for Trump but the first US POTUS to be convicted of a felony by a jury ?? Nothing trivial at all in that process

Elon is saying being convicted of an actual crime is trivial....no that is just expectations and process..u commit. A crime, u go to court, u face the music and you handle the sentence if guilty .....that is just process and expectations that should be a reality for everyone......the outcome is trivial to support

That's the way I see it though

Being convicted of the crime..not trivial...the punishment on this WILL be trivial.....no Trump won't go to jail....worst case sentence is house arrest and some fines ...that's Trivial

Multiple reports Trump and Elon talk on a regular basis now and that Trump is considering Elon for an Appointment position in the US Govt if reelected

You’re certainly entitled to your opinion. I agree one candidate is a giant douche and turd sandwich, but the other is an old moderate Democrat who will not destroy the Constitution or the country in another 4 year term. Some even say Biden is only behind FDR and LBJ in what he’s accomplished. Sorry you can’t see around your biases to recognize that.

1. If you feel this way, where were you when "Lock her up!" was a political slogan?

2. He was accused of a crime, a grand jury saw fit that he needed to be prosecuted, and a jury of his peers found him guilty. This happens every day in our legal system. The only thing special about it is his last name and the letter in front of his first name. I'm guessing if he never ran for President and was convicted of something related to his business dealings and not his political aspirations there would be a ton of people crying about this who would be happy a rich New Yorker got his.

3. If Biden potentially a state law and due process is followed, well the state has a duty there. Because no one is above the law.
He was screaming lock her up because like all idjits they only care when it’s not their “Tribe”.

I am breaking my own personal rule responding here and I want to state that this is my personal view, not that of the site (which is dedicated to OSU sports) or the other mods.

Trump broke several laws and was found guilty, the first time ever for a former president. There was never a universe where convicting an ex president would not be viewed by that person's supporters as political. We can look at other countries where this has happened recently (France, Argentina, Pakistan, etc). If you followed the trial and the testimonies, it is pretty clear he knowingly broke the law at the time. His 1st amendment was not trampled on, he took the 5th so he didn't incriminate himself further.

I view this as a positive development as all of our current and last 5 presidents have broken the law:
1) Clinton - lied under oath to congress
2) Bush - Invaded Iraq under knowingly false pretenses directly leading to 100k civilian deaths
3) Obama - used drones to assassinate more than 1 american citizen without due process
4) Trump - this case, along with the GA one where we have recordings of him telling the GA governor to find him votes do he win
5) Biden - Attempted use of office to shield family members from prosecution
It’s amazing to me how readily you group all Presidential “crimes” together in an effort to make them equal. Might as well throw in H.W. Bush’s lie to America: read my lips no new taxes. Or Ronald Reagan’s dementia keeping Democrats from empeaching him over Iran/Contra. Or Jimmy Carter admitting he lusted after women. And yet only Trump has been convicted of felonies. It isn’t rigged, he’s just a criminal at heart and in deed.

I’ll pushback a little here and admit I’m playing the what if game.

I will concede that if it’s not Donald the trial may not have happened. But I’ll also say it’s just as likely that charges are brought and that person pleads down to a couple of misdemeanors.

That being said what if he never rawdogs a porn star and then uses hush money in a conspiracy to keep it quiet 10 days before the election.

If he never covered it up which is not being disputed does he win in 2016? He and his camp thought there was a big enough risk to cover it up bc they might lose so why shouldn’t we now take that leap.

As to future cases that you indicate he should rot in jail for (and this is to anyone) how is not election interference or even worse to knowingly vote for a person who will immediately move to drop the charges against themselves if he wins?

Trump supporters call for riots and violent retribution after verdict

Supporters of former President Donald Trump, enraged by his conviction on 34 felony counts by a New York jury, flooded pro-Trump websites with calls for riots, revolution and violent retribution.

After Trump became the first U.S. president to be convicted of a crime, his supporters responded with dozens of violent online posts, according to a Reuters review of comments on three Trump-aligned websites: the former president's own Truth Social platform, Patriots.Win and the Gateway Pundit.

Some called for attacks on jurors, the execution of the judge, Justice Juan Merchan, or outright civil war and armed insurrection.

“Someone in NY with nothing to lose needs to take care of Merchan,” wrote one commentator on Patriots.Win. “Hopefully he gets met with illegals with a machete,” the post said in reference to illegal immigrants.

On Gateway Pundit, one poster suggested shooting liberals after the verdict. “Time to start capping some leftys,” said the post. “This cannot be fixed by voting."

Threats of violence and intimidating rhetoric soared after Trump lost the 2020 election and falsely claimed the vote was stolen. As he campaigns for a second White House term, Trump has baselessly cast the judges and prosecutors in his trials as corrupt tools of the Biden administration, intent on sabotaging his White House bid. His loyalists have responded with a campaign of threats and intimidation targeting judges and court officials.

“This was a disgrace, this was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who was corrupt,” Trump told reporters afterwards, echoing comments he often made during the trial.

A 12-member jury found Trump guilty on Thursday of falsifying documents to cover up a payment to silence a porn star’s account of a sexual encounter ahead of the 2016 election. Sentencing is set for July 11, days before the Republican Party is scheduled to formally nominate Trump for president ahead of the Nov. 5 election. Trump has denied wrongdoing and is expected to appeal.

Trump continued his attacks online after the verdict.

On Truth Social, he called Merchan “HIGHLY CONFLICTED” and criticized his jury instructions as unfair. One commentator responded by posting a picture of a hangman's platform and a noose with the caption: “TREASONOUS MOBSTER OF THE JUSTICES SYSTEM!!”

Jacob Ware, a co-author of the book “God, Guns, and Sedition: Far-Right Terrorism in America”, said the violent language used by Trump’s followers was testament to the former president’s “ironclad ability to mobilize more extreme supporters to action, both at the ballot box and through violence.”

“Until and unless he accepts the process, the extremist reaction to his legal troubles will be militant,” said Ware, a research fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations.

A spokesperson for Truth Social said, “It’s hard to believe that Reuters, once a respected news service, has fallen so low as to publish such a manipulative, false, defamatory and transparently stupid article as this one purely out of political spite.”

All three sites have policies against violent language, and some of the posts were later removed. Representatives of Patriots.Win and Gateway Pundit did not immediately return requests for comment. A Trump spokesperson also did not respond to an email seeking comment.

“HANG EVERYONE”

After Thursday's verdict, many of his supporters also said that his conviction was proof that the American political system was broken and that only violent action could save the country.

“1,000,000 men (armed) need to go to Washington and hang everyone. That's the only solution,” said one poster on Patriots.win. Another added: “Trump should already know he has an army willing to fight and die for him if he says the words...I’ll take up arms if he asks.”

Other posts specifically urged targeting Democrats, in some cases suggesting they be shot. “AMERICA FULLY DESTROYED BY DEMOCRATS. LOCK AND LOAD,” wrote a commentator on Gateway Pundit.

While the posts identified by Reuters all called for violence or insurrection, most fell short of the legal standard for a prosecutable threat, which typically requires evidence that the comment reflects a clear intent to act or instill fear, rather than simply suggesting a frightening outcome.

Still, one researcher who studies extremist militias said the guilty verdict could inspire violence by reinforcing a conviction among some of Trump's supporters that he's a victim of a conspiracy orchestrated by his enemies.

“I do think a lot of these folks have been looking for an excuse to maybe mobilize for a while,” said Amy Cooter of the Middlebury Institute of International Studies’ Center on Terrorism, Extremism and Counterterrorism. “I hope I’m wrong. I’ve said for a long time, though, that I would not be shocked to see violence result from a guilty verdict, either directed toward the jurors” or others connected to the case.
