As for the cost of food, if the government can pay farmers not to grow crops, then it can pay farmers to grow crops. But it wouldn't occur to Trump to bring that up.

He wasn't wrong about one thing. The farm economy was doing great when he threw a bunch of money at it. Analysts were confused because it didn't make any sense (other than an attempt to buy votes in a segment of the population that was going to vote for him anyways). Farmers loved it because who doesn't like free money?
But what about their bootstraps? Aren't they all about no handouts and people just working harder and all that? Thought it went against everything they stood for.
The irony wasn't lost on me.
