OT: General CFB Thread

Interesting story out of Va Tech regarding transfers and taking a redshirt to do so. Beamer had a player wanting to redshirt and transfer-he just sent him packing.

Can’t sayI blame him. If the player’s intent is simply to quit on the season and go somewhere else, no need to have him around.

It’s a transactional world now-works both ways.
You talking about Frank Beamer (VaTech) or Shane Beamer (S Carolina)?

Penn State is getting eleventy-billion dollars to be on TV. If he's that worried about this, he can stop expecting someone else to extend the runway and PSU can provide some funds to the airport to accomplish what would benefit them. Otherwise, they can F right off.

🤔 it benefits every sport the school has, simply put.

SWO did this years ago, got commercial service through American-so football can fly their large charters, other sports can connect through DFW to anywhere in the country or world. Kind of a big deal.

And the cherry on top is that Gundy just parks in the Airport Director’s spot.🤡

To me, it’s not about the airport. I have no sympathy for the football coaches/teams. They have one game per week and get to hop on a plane. The sports with midweek games and multiple games per weeks getting thrown into a coast-to-coast conference for the sake of the football TV contract is who pays for it, especially if they get relegated to bus/van travel.

The runway in Athens was expanded specifically for bigger jets for the UGA football team, and the taxpayers got stuck with the bill as a federal grant paid for it.

There's something to be said about the other team knowing you are going to run it and you run it down their throat anyway. Listening to our coaches talk, they make it sound like that's impossible and one is insane to even suggest the idea.

The fact that this concept eludes our coaching staff with what we had coming back tells us everything we need to know. They are not cut out to coach this level of football.

Yes, they get those 737s and A-320 and A-321s from American coming in to SWO!!!

Casey Porter had a guest on his Youtube show the other day that brought up a fantastic point about stacked boxes. He mentioned that teams gained yards consistently against stacked boxes before the introduction of the forward pass into the game, so running against loaded boxes is not new. Its one of the oldest challenges in the game of football. Early teams with fractions of the same resources and time devoted to the game still found ways to move the ball against such defenses. Why can't we?

Yeah, exactly and like Army and Navy still do to this day among others. There's no secret to what Army is going to do when they line up yet they lead the nation in rushing. It's just another lame excuse for our lack of offensive creativity.

Army had run for 1800 yards this year as a team and averages 6.8 per carry…..

All with zero NFL talent upfront and everyone and their dog knowing it’s coming.

My opinion is that it's a combination of arrogance and complacency. Our offensive system says that we are going to take what the defense gives us, that's it, that's all. Therefore, we don't need to find ways to run on a stacked box because we are going to throw when the defense gives us that. The problem is that this is not an offensive identity, it's an inflexible rule that allows the opposing defense to dictate what we are going to do and prevents us from designing a game plan around our best players.

Except we are not doing that all the time. If we took what the defense gives us then Ollie wouldn’t be trying to run between the tackles when they stack the box.

But that's not our main problem. Our main problem is that we aren't actually taking what the defense gives us, regardless of what HCMG states in press conferences. We are attempting to smash into stacked boxes repeatedly, wasting downs, not sustaining drives, and he complains endlessly that we never established the run and couldn't possess the ball for more than 20 mins. More often than not, we do exactly the thing you shouldn't be doing in every scenario. Need to burn clock? Let's run up the middle twice for losses, each time snapping the ball with 20 seconds left on the play clock, then throw a low % pass for an incompletion on 3rd and long. Yeah, that makes sense... Need to get down the field quickly? Let's take the clock down to zero before snapping the ball.

- We run into stacked boxes too often.
- We run to the short side of the field too often.
- We don't adjust our schemes around our personnel.
- We often throw to the wide side of the field, to the sidelines
- We often throw deep shots down the sidelines and fades in the end zone that rarely have success
- We play the most experienced, most tired, or most injured player too often. [I recall a specific instance with Joe Randle where he ran like 4-5 straight times, and asked to come off the field. They wouldn't let him, then forced him to run into a stacked box on 3rd and short, where he was tackled for a loss and got injured. It was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen on a football field.]
- We seemingly don't have a 4-minute offense
- We seemingly don't have a 2-minute offense

The fact is, when Gundy says "We haven't changed things around here in 10 years.", he actually means it. We see it. We've run the same 6 plays on a loop since Monken left. He does this because he has found an approach that gives him the most money for the least effort. He clearly doesn't care about the fans. His priorities seem to be his ego, his hobbies, money, Cowboy Culture, and further down the list...winning football games, maybe, and only because the wins are required to maintain the aforementioned priorities.
