Oklahomans convicted of Jan. 6 crimes released after pardons by President Trump koco

Thirteen people were released after pardons from President Donald Trump.

KOCO spoke to two people who were released, but they hid their faces from the camera to avoid being seen.

"I don’t want my face on TV," one man told KOCO.

Most of the Oklahomans who were arrested only received probation. The few that were sentenced to time in jail included Jerry Ryals of Muskogee, who was found guilty of civil disorder and sentenced to nine months behind bars and three years of supervised release.

One of the more serious alleged offenders is Benjamin Burlew. The FBI said he assaulted a photographer with the Associated Press and tried to push him over the Capitol's west lawn.

His sentencing date was moved to late January, and it now won't take place.

Despite having all legal ramifications wiped out, none of those released Tuesday wanted to comment on getting out of those charges.

An Oklahoma man pleaded guilty on Thursday to assaulting a police officer during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol, where he also allegedly pushed an Associated Press photographer over a wall.

Benjamen Scott Burlew, 44, of Miami, Oklahoma, disappeared for several months after missing court appearances in Washington, D.C., last year. He was re-arrested on May 13 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and remained jailed until his guilty plea.
...
“Today, he accepted responsibility for (his) conduct, acknowledging it was criminal in nature,” Jenkins said after the hearing.

Burlew pleaded guilty to an assault charge, agreeing that he approached a police line behind metal barricades, grabbed a Metropolitan Police Department officer and tried to pull him into the crowd of rioters.

Burlew also was charged with assaulting the AP photographer by grabbing, dragging and ultimately pushing him over a low stone wall outside the Capitol. Other rioters have been charged with assaulting the same photographer, who was documenting the attack by a mob of former President Donald Trump’s supporters.

The photographer was wearing a lanyard identifying him as an AP journalist. One of his assailants grabbed the lanyard and used it to drag him down stairs.

A Fort Gibson man will serve nine months in prison for his role in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol building.

Jerry Ryals was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Washington, DC, and was sentenced to more time than prosecutors had requested.

Ryals pleaded guilty to a single charge of civil disorder. Investigators developed a timeline of Ryal’s trip to and from Washington for a “Stop the Steal” rally, and gathered photographs and video of Ryals both outside and inside the Capitol.

Video used by prosecutors shows Ryals using a sign post to try breaking into an office in the Capitol. After the post breaks, he and several other men forced their way into the unoccupied office.

Prosecutors said Ryals took several photographs of himself while inside the building during the riot, including those photos in documents for the judge to consider during sentencing.

It's basically a small rope around their neck. Depending on where the person grabbed relative to the safety snap, yeah it's possible. But yeah, you would never believe anything that makes your fellow cultists look bad.
😂😂😂I know what a lanyard is. I’ve seen lanyards. I’ve worn lanyards. I’ve never seen a lanyard that you could physically drag someone around with.

Iḿ confident I could drag you down some stairs with this lanyard...

Oklahoma lawmaker proposes legislation outlawing pornography

"For far too long, civil society has conflated liberty for license," FOX 25 in Oklahoma City quoted the lawmaker as saying. "These bills are aimed at strengthening the God-instituted bedrock of society, that is, the family. A strong, prosperous and flourishing society depends on strong families." Yet it would still be legal for married couples to look at or produce porn as long as they keep it to themselves. So, Sen. Deevers, if married, made sure he would be entitled to watch porn.
