OC and DC Possibilities - New DC Todd Grantham, OC Doug Meacham

Gundy is human and his son had gone through a 12 hour surgery that permanently destroyed his hearing in one ear to remove a brain tumor the day before his most recent rant. For that reason alone I can understand why Mike was on edge that weekend. He had already agreed with Shrum and Weiberg to fire the coordinators, take a cut in pay and buyout weeks before the BoR had their special meeting. If you paid attention to Mike’s post game press conferences Mike said he was told to talk only about football. He also said that he made a mistake about NIL and that he would embrace it and use it going forward. He was told by Shrum and/or Weiberg to stick to football. Shrum and Weiberg were at the BOR meeting. They had to advocate for Gundy because some of the Regents don’t like Gundy and they saw this as a chance to get rid of him. I suspect that Shrum and Weiberg were criticized by the BoR but they prevailed. The special meeting wasn’t necessary and it just made a bad situation worse. Just calling the special meeting affected the decisions of several recruits and prospective coaches. I think it is obvious that Mike is being pushed out over the next couple of years to resign or be bought out so expect mediocre results unless Mike and his assistants pull off a miracle and OSU provides adequate NIL funding. College ball is going through a transition and it is finished changing. Go Pokes!
How do you know all of this plus there was a coordinator on the plane headed to Stillwater? I haven’t seen this reported anywhere but maybe I missed it.

Carson Cunningham’s reporting on the Pistol’s firing podcast contradicts a lot of this narrative. He’s indicated in the week following 52-0 and the end of the season that Gundy was showing resistance to meeting, renegotiating, and other changes with Weiberg and Shrum, and that led to the BoR meeting. It logically makes more sense with how things played out. I don’t think that meeting happens if Gundy comes away from the season consolatory and open to changes.

There’s two sides to every story, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. We’ll never know for sure what went on but ultimately this was a public renegotiation that lasted all of 24hrs. I find the idea that Gundy had some home run OC hire on their way, and recruits/transfer portal guys lined up at the door, as some next level, extra potent Kool aid stuff.
I don’t know anything about Carson Cunningham but just based on common sense and the timeline this is the version that makes the most sense to me. All of these other versions sound like propaganda. I’m sure it was very embarrassing to Gundy, Weiberg, and Shrum that the BoR had to step in so I’m not surprised there’s a story out there that claims everything had been taken care of, Gundy was going to coach for free and donate every penny to his name to NIL and the athletic department, and Andy Reid / Bill Belicek we’re on private jets and en route to Stilly to come in as coordinators but the mean ‘ol BoR wrecked it so now you’re stuck with Meachum and Grantham. That just doesn’t pass the smell test for me since we hadn’t even seen Nardo and Dunn dismissed yet when the BoR stepped in. It’s revisionist history IMO.

Um, if he wanted to just “collect a paycheck” and hold onto his “huge ego/pride” don’t you think he would’ve said screw all of you and pay me my $25 million buyout? Well, he didn’t. He wants to make it right and loves Oklahoma State. He’s earned the right to do so.
I’m sorry, Gundy is a saint and is the best coach in the history of sports, the dude wanted to save face and not get canned. He has embarrassed OSU on several occasions just this year, but you just keep on believing

If it’s all about ego & pride I would think his main motivation would be to stay on as HC and not go out with a 3-9 record and on someone else’s terms. UNLESS he could leave for a better job as a FU.

I thought that was Joe John Finley.
"Joined the Oklahoma staff as a senior offensive analyst in spring 2024 and was named co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach on Oct. 20, 2024."

Joe John Finley listed as co-OC and TE coach

Carson Cunningham is a hack who only exists to crap on us. Don't waste time giving him clicks.
Meh, I listen to a lot of OSU crap…Ha! I listened to RA all week too and all of his propaganda. Dirato caused a blow up Tuesday calling him out for it.

While many were saying Gundy had the university over a barrel with his contract, buyout and all, Carson talked for a month about how frustrated the admin was with Gundy and that they would force changes at the end of the season. I get he can be viewed as negative towards Gundy many times but clearly he has some pretty solid intel as well.

I view it differently. If it was about pride/ego he would’ve said no, I’m not changing my ways and you can either deal with it or pay my buy out.

Formere OU (co), Duke, and Texas Tech OC Kevin Johns hired to coach QBs. Not sure how anyone can spin this as a bad hire, but I look forward to it

This is the best news I’ve heard in a week. I think Traber and Blevins were pretty complimentary about this guys capabilities. My guess is OU’s new OC doesn’t want to retain him.

My biggest beef with the Gundy era has been lack of development of QB’s.

Gundy’s biggest fear is that he leaves and someone comes in and disproves all the things he’s said about the ceiling OSU has. That’s where his ego won’t let him leave on such a down note.
I sit corrected. The announcement was filed on 3 Dec and firings announced on 4 Dec.

And to that point, if I’m the guy firing people, I would have zipped up both of those guys Friday night or Saturday morning after CU game.
I think the BoR agreed with you which is why that meeting was scheduled. Nothing was happening and they weren’t happy.

This is so much closer to the actual truth but a faction doesn’t want to hear that.

Shrum and Weiberg were the cause of the BoR meetings, not Gundy. They’ve gotten a pass from way too many people that just want to gripe and have no idea what they’re talking about.
