WVU coming off a hail mary Loss in Houston and is 4-2 (2-1) on the season. 3-0 in Morgantown.

How we feeling about this one?

A helluva lot better than I did after the South Alabama car wreck and disappointing Iowa State loss.

Hand up, I’ve never heard WVU referred to as “Mounties” and thought the thread was about basketball or baseball. Doh!

The book makers don't know what to do with this one.....WVU had 4 straight wins and had only lost to Penn St but not over anyone worth anything and just lost to a bad Houston team. We are coming off two "decent" wins...that may not look as good at year end... but have two very bad loses. They don't want anyone betting on this one because neither team is very good and who knows which ones show up.

Vegas should never bet against Gundy. But they haven't learned yet.

Vegas wants equal amounts on each side of the bet
This. They DO want people betting on this game. They just don’t want it lopsided. They adjust the spread until the bets even out. This is why you can get the best odds early. But you have the least amount of data. So, guess what? The House wins.

Yep, and in the situations where this is not true and the money is heavy on one side, look out. Vegas is usually right in those situations. I wonder how often one would win by just voting against the betting favorite when the betting was heavily uneven.

If OSU is really getting better and better then I feel like we are due for a breakaway win. This could be that win, or it could just be another nail biter. I definitely did not like seeing Houston pull the upset as that is just going to make us get WVU's full attention.

If our offense can keep the chains moving, and we contain their rushing attack, we should be in good shape. They're not a great passing offense.

FYI, these podcast notes will be of a normal length and depth.

Offense

QB - Not a ton of things to say outside of Bowman playing really well. Their only criticism outside of that one really bad throw that was nearly picked was that he is still picking the checkdown throws over pushing the ball downfield. Otherwise, he was very efficient, accurate and was over a 68% completion percentage. He is playing like the QB we thought we were getting from the portal.

RB - Gordon was fantastic and really showed a bit of what he is really capable of. The cool thing is that in reviewing the game tape, there were still opportunities for him to grow. As long as our offensive line continues to block well, he is going to be a force for opposing defenses. Nixon was also an effective back and had his best run of the season. They would like to see Collins (despite the fumble) get a few more carries as the number of touches Ollie got is unsustainable over the course of the season.

WR - Owens had himself a game. Not the quickest guy or best route runner, but is physically imposing and a real challenge for Kansas' DB's to cover. Pressley also had a good game despite recieving a bit of extra attention from Kansas' DBs. Green blocked well. Kobe Bryant (KU CB) ate Bray's lunch and completely locked him down to the tune of 1 catch for 4 yards. Not a good sign and he needs to rebound vs WVU.

TE - Josiah Johnson continues to make progress and is become more of a passing thread. He is decent at blocking, but still had a few complete whiffs this game. Also, the blocked FG was his fault. He was replaced by Quinton Stewart for the remainder of the FG attempts and Gundy referenced "changes" there in his weekly press conference.

OL - Their best game in the last ~2 years. Excellent execution across the board, but specifically Springfield, who took over LT after Cooper went out with a labrum tear. Brooks also had his best game while Preston Wilson and Michalski were solid. If they can figure out how to replicate this performance in future games this year, it will make a huge difference on the ceiling of the offense. WVU will be a good test.

Defense

DL - Used a 3 man front almost exclusively this game (88%). It worked. Goodlow played 81% of all snaps and was effective, as was Clay and Kirkland. Latu didnt have a great game, was pushed around a bit and didnt generate pressure.

LB - Oliver had a hell of a game. Was brough on blitzes especially in the 4th quarter from the LB spot as opposed from the line. Von Miller-esque. Benson had a good game and was active. Probably the best game as a cowboy. Martin had an excellent game also, with the game sealing pick and several great open field tackles.

DB - The corners, especially Black had good games, but safety play was rough. Rucker frequently lookes lost and was picked on. Daniels struggled in coverage mpst of the evening other than the pick. Epps also was not playing well and went out of the game in the 3rd quarter and didn't return. There ia some concern he was injured. The other youngsters that played looked young ans struggled with assignments. Not a good day for this position group.

Special Teams - Were excellent outside of the blocked FG, which appears to have been fixed by moving Johnson off the unit.

WVU - The have been bit by the injury bug is very injured. Especially noticble on the dline. Comong off their worst performance all year. They are a run first offense which plays to our defensive strength. Their qb almost threw for 400 yards last game, but has been very pedestrian otherwise. Good OL and rb play. Look for them to be a bit more pass oriented unless it is rainy, to take advantage of our safeties.

Their d is generally sound and anchored by the d line. Win the LOS and we should have success. Expect a close game.

Cade - 24-21 Pokes.

Dustin - 27-24 Pokes.
