Conference Realignment - What's next?

But at the same time, the film comes from a time when Sanders wasn't even in Colorado. It has zero strategic value to anyone. Basically just being a dick to kids you told to leave so that they can't end up somewhere else. It's basically saying I don't want you here and I'm going to it super difficult for you to go anywhere else.
That’s like 50% of the replies on Twitter. I don’t disagree at all, not a great look for a coach.

One reply from a player said something to the affect of “you’re supposed to have your film downloaded for study/review, maybe that’s why you never played and are leaving.”😂😂

mebe a stupid question, but when PRIME came in and told everyone to hit the portal, if athlete chooses not to, can he pull scholarships?

Does old furniture have scholarships?

Because that is what he called this exodus, getting rid of old furniture. On tp of that, he lost most of the experience from last year's team and apparently he was playing favorites with reps in spring camp, not based on performance.

Right now, they only have 3 scholarship players on the entire defensive line.

I think this will blow up in his face.

I can see it going both ways based on the announcements tonight of incoming players. He wasn’t sitting back and waiting. He’s been working the channels big time.

I do not follow the portal closely but would think most in there are not stars or even first teamers. So who is he getting in these channels?

Now if stars start bolting and somehow keep ending up in Boulder, would seem there is a high likelihood of impermissible contact. Again, seeing what he did here (DFW) with his sham academy that was shut down and with the TAPPS christian school...let us just say I would not be surprised in the slightest if CU gets in trouble for recruiting violations.

I get that. Fair.

You guys do remember they play in the PAC. They've got a shot at 5 to 6 wins if they work their nonconf correctly. You know USC and Utah will pound them but after that who is very good in conf? Could it blow up? Absolutely. Could it work and get to bowl? It very well could.

So when he gets his roster set and they suck next year (which they will), will he handle it well? Deion likes to act like hes done this before, but this time around he is dealing with players/people with options. What kind of chemistry will there be when the culture is produce of be gone? How fun will the social media/reality tv show be when they are 2-5. How well will the roster wash go when they run off 3-9 next year? Its pretty telling when 20 plus players skip the first portal round to give it a shot and leave when they actually get a taste of whats up. I'll put my trust in the players....they know. The guy is taking a different approach to every other coach getting paid millions for results. I'm all for watching contrarian ideas play out, but they usually fall flat. The idea of just building a roster that you want and excepting nothing less sounds fun, but I don't think its as easy as Deion wants it to be. At some point he's going to have to develop players, handpicking just wont sustain at Colorado.

I don’t know honestly, not sure I Disagree with you at all. I certainly do not land in the players are victims world and firmly in the coaches are beholden to their programs and guys they want and want to be there. All sports honestly.

Nothing I’ve posted is a “defense of Deion.” Just clarifying.

But I’d by lying if I said I don’t like his attitude toward ‘some’ of the NCAAF world right now. It’s a strange existence from what it used to be.

Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, and UCLA (while they're still there) are all good or decent teams. Colorado has TCU to open up with. I am a doubter. Sanders has never coached in the big leagues and doesn't have much of a record at any level, except for three seasons (2 years) at Jackson State in the NIL era (where his money was able to out recruit the competition), where he still couldn't win their bowl game. If he didn't insist on everything he does being on video, I might think otherwise, but I'm not sure his ego and methods can make it at a high level.

This. Yeah, with the portal and NIL, things are a little bit different, but to win, a program still has to develop players. Let's see if he can do that and keep a team together when you have a bunch of massive egos.

WSU is also having a Board of Regents meeting this week. One of the topics is set to be "Delegation of Authority to Assign Media Rights". Also, if you read through their presentation, particularly slides 6 and 7, WSU is projecting some pretty large losses in their athletic department. They make particular care to point out the "Shortfall" of the "PAC 12 media distributions". Sounds like WSU is looking at the PAC 12 like a sinking ship.

All this following the huge deficit of $25M in 2021 due to Covid.
