Conference Realignment - What's next?

Cannot find it now. Read the front end of a SmartNews article today where the Fresno State AD (I think the AD) stated they are on the B12 shortlist. Where TF did that come from
Don't they have a bond issue coming up for a vote? I'm sure Yormark has talked with them, as well as a lot of other schools, about joining the Big XII. This is most likely just a push to get the bond issue passed and also to position themselves better for the next round of realignment. Not sure they make the cut this round, unless something wild happens like adding Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Arizona, San Diego State, and Fresno State.

The article I posted said they have an upcoming sales tax initiative vote.

Why don’t they wear those over the helmet pads during games if they’re more protective than without them?

For starters, current research is inconclusive and still ongoing. They have been shown to reduce the impact force by 5-33% depending on various factors with a generally stated norm of about 10%. Problem is, there is no direct correlation between force and concussion likelihood or severity.

They have had developmental issues like sliding out of place, coordination with facemasks and maybe the most significant, they actually "grab" upon impact instead of sliding through the impact like hard shell helmets which has lead to some neck injuries.

In a nutshell, still more R&D to do.

Here is a good reference

I can definitely say as a former coach, they dropped our concussion percentage down big time over the course of a couple seasons. Now, not saying they should be worn in a game due to the issues you stated but I swear by them for practice throughout the year.

The CW. I almost hope the PAC stays together on a short term deal just so I can soak in all the one liners that will come to be.

Even if the PAC signs a new deal with all ten members this cycle, I'm having a hard time seeing how they are not considered a sub-tier Power conference. Yes I know that the Big 12 and ACC are already sub-tier power conferences compared to the B1G and SEC, but the PAC is already another step down. Even without losing more.

You know things are unsettled when ADs are engaging the rumor mill accounts. Several journalists have mentioned Colorado leaving and he didn’t go after them.

They're going to be relegated to mid-major status

Basically, what this tweet says is that CU will not break the law. CU legally cannot hold any vote in private or virtually. It must be in person and public. However, as any voting body in the world does, there is nothing stopping them from informally polling the board and seeing where a vote would fall. Not saying this is going to happen, but the exact same thing happened 2 days before the official vote for them leave the Big 12. The wording of the agenda is eerily similar.

Having gone to a couple different boards and fan sites now, I feel like I can state this pretty conclusively: PAC is fudged. The various deals they could get done with different partners all contradict each other on key terms and at best (meaning best terms possible and all partners play nice) would get them to about 26 mil per school before the conference cut.

The gap is wide and getting wider every day they don't get a deal done. Scheer over on the Arizona 247 board expects things to ramp up tremendously with Arizona after they pass Robbins' deadline without a deal and CU seems poised to make the jump.

This is all going to end soon, one way or another.

Actually, once the first school jumps I think that is when the fireworks really start. It could end quick, but it is going to get crazy. This could be the first true conference death in some time. It will likely get ugly. Same ugly fascination as an Oklahoma Tornado.

I’m in Ft Collins dealing with family until Wednesday. Summer/late spring here is pretty damn awesome. I don’t know if Colorado State is worth a look, but since I’m a fossil and traveling more, this would be a nice game trip.

so did CU jump?
Today is just an informal vote behind closed doors. They have to hold the official vote in public for it to be legit. If as expected the informal voting today says to go to the Big 12 there will likely be the official public vote in the next couple of weeks.
