Conference Realignment - What's next?

Seems there is mutual disinterest between the Big 12 and Utah. But I'm sure it's nothing a few $$s won't be able to change when stuff starts moving.
Sounding like FOX is the one without the interest in Utah. Rumors that now FOX has agreed to prorata rate for just Colorado and Arizona. Which means if true that adding anyone beyond those two would cut all the current teams payouts. So in other words won’t happen.

Makes sense. Hard to tell what smoke is what. I could certainly live with just those 2 while we see what happens with Oregon and Washington.

Colorado and Arizona get garbage ratings compared to Utah. If you can get Utah you take them over either one of the others.

Umm we don't take anyone that the media partners don't approve, end of story. So if that rumor is true and Fox says take Colorado and Arizona over Utah then that is what is going to happen.

They must be looking at market potential (for lack of a better term) when it comes to CU--given their history and now having Coach Prime. If that is the case, it seems to be a big gamble.

is a massive gamble considering he'll be at colorado for the minimum amount of time it will take to get a job offer at a more competitive program.

The Big 12 is in charge of the Big 12 not media partners, This isn’t a Burger King; Media partners don’t tell us what to add and what to hold.

Media Partners come and go; Conferences are about relationships.

Also, I’m talking about Utah; a school width significantly higher television ratings, Consistently one of the top teams in the PAC-12; and a member of the AAU.

You would have to be aiming for less money to not prefer Utah over Colorado or Arizona.

I’m not talking about adding Abilene Christian.

You really think the big 12 isn’t getting feedback, directly or indirectly, from media partners before they expand.?

We already have contracts in place and those contracts have clauses in them on who we can and cannot add and how it will affect the payouts. So yes the media partners are in charge unless we want the current per team payout to go down.

I’m sure they’re getting feedback; but Utah over Arizona and Colorado is a no-brainer; I can repost the television ratings if I need to; Their winning % is clearly above the other two schools.

No. You’ve posted it plenty of times. It is one metric. I’m sure the higher ups that know more than you and I combined look at a lot more than that to determine who adds enough value to add to the conference. And know who we can add.

The networks don’t have any loyalty to the conference. They are just customers.

Serve the best product; get the best price.

Do you really think Fox or ESPN has our best interests at heart?

Have you really been paying attention to what ESPN tried to do to the Big 12?

Viewership, Prestige Schools and Product Quality matter. This ain’t rocket science.

Of course the media partners have some input; but they have zero accountability to the Big 12 after the current contract expires.

Colorado hasn’t been to bowls in consecutive seasons since 2005; do you really think advertisers want to be affiliated with a garbage product?

Arizona has been 109-143 since 2001.

Do you think anyone in Arizona or Colorado will be watching their games in November?? Especially now that they are stepping up in competition from the PAC-12??

Neither school has shown a serious concrete commitment to football this millennium;

Tying our fortune to these two because a media partner advised it would be asinine.

This is common sense; I’m not suggesting adding North Dakota St.

They’re just trying to get us to take PAC-12 dead weight; not help the Big 12.

That is all nice and probably true but it doesn’t matter one bit. If we do add someone it will be someone approved by the media partners to be at least be a pro rata add. If that rumor is true and they don’t view Utah as that then they don’t get added, end of story.

We have a current contract. Do you really think the Big 12 is going to add a school that dilutes the per school payout?

I think he’ll get Colorado to six win bowl games; and if they stay in the PAC-12 they will be in contention within 2-3 seasons.
