Conference Realignment - What's next?

Cw with tbs or tnt as the 2 main tiers. There are options. Try to have a tuesday and a thursday game.

FSU is MAJOR saber rattling right now to try to extort more money out of either the conference or ESPN. Thing is though they have nothing to stand on here. It is $120 mil to get out of the conference, but the ACC still owns their media rights after that. Look how hard it was for OU and UT to get out just ONE YEAR early. It ain't happening.

Crazy to think that the Big 12 is more functional and worth more than the ACC and the PAC after losing 6 teams over the last two decades, but it is true. Hard to see any PAC schools wanting to join the ACC. I think it is getting more and more likely that PAC schools leave for the Big 12. Maybe only a few weeks out.

Do I understand correctly that the Big12 $ are tier 1 & 2 only and do not include our Tier 3? If so that adds another $5ish million. Then add the $2ish million per yr over the 6 yrs that we are getting from ut/uo leaving and we are north of $40 million per yr.

Also crazy to think UCF will double FSU in media rights $. That’s got to royally po some FSU boosters.

Isn't that more a byproduct of when these deals were signed? Big 12 just signed a new one so of course it'll be bigger and better than the last one they signed back in 2012. The whole environment has changed since then.

So if you examine the acc signing their deal back in 2016, that's basically ancient history now too, lots of changes since then and consider that was before clemson won two national titles.

The pac 12's deal is even older than the old big 12 deal, signed in the land before time in 2011. so much change in the media landscape from 2011 to 2023

Then we look at the new deals. big 12 is big. but compared the big 10 it's not in the same planet. even the sec's 2019 deal is pretty old now and that's still massive but it could be even more enormous now that they have two of the highest revenue generators in the sport in the fold.

So for sure big 12 is competitive if you compare their brand new deal to the really old deals the pac and acc are under now. with that said, it looks like the pac will be no more, or just be a g5 as the big 10 may raid oregon and washington, and im thinking big 12 goes after the arizonas, colorado and utah. Though i am not sure that those programs really elevate the brand of the big 12 a lot. but it would make them more competitive in the new landscape. But how competitive is the question. what percentage of what the sec and big 10 teams will be getting will the big 12 be at? that gap could be major and would be a separator going forward.

all that extra dough will let teams invest heavily into facilities, coaching, recruiting, NIL and other things. could really have an impact on the ability of these major conference schools in big 10 and sec to have their way in the new landscape compared to what will be left of the acc, pac and big 12. It will be interesting.

Not for the PAC situation. PAC can't get a deal better than the new BIG12 deal. The PAC potential deals are closer to the current old BIG12 deal and they have been trying for about 9 months. It has been revealed that everyone doesn't view them as highly as they view themselves.

As for the ACC, that is a product of them being ignorant and signing a 20 year deal. They are stuck with it.

The dynamics have changed so much that any rational judge would agree that ESPN/ABC has to raise what they are paying ACC schools.

Florida St and Clemson aren’t just looking to be make fair market value; they are looking to make Bezos money.

The Mouse is passive aggressively screwing FSU and Clemson and after seeing how they meddled in the Big 12 in 2021, it’s a wonder any schools still do business with them.

be pretty wild if Clemson and Florida state could find a way to the big 12 to come to a comparable deal to sec with fox.

Maybe a pipe dream but the big 12 could solidify a major power conference with ease. Also, Clemson would avoid the death trap of playing bama and Georgia or atleast not until the playoffs

yes the pac is completely up a creek and they are hemorrhaging teams and arent picking anyone else up worthy of being a replacement. That's why i think they get further raided and may even just disband or rebrand completely.

yeah the acc was stupid with a 20 year deal but the point was to imply that part of why the big 12 looks rosy now is because they are being compared to really old contracts.

there really isnt a premier program in the big 12 anymore. if they want to be competitive in the new landscape and be a player they'll need to get some programs in the fold that open eyes and turn on tv sets. but being 30-40 million a year behind every big 10 and sec program will widen the gap further than it already is.

fsu and clemson would be something, if they somehow got out of the acc deal. i wonder how ucf would feel about that. but it would give the big 12 some real juice as baylor, tcu, osu, cincy, and even byu- they arent really moving the needle a whole lot outside the big 12 footprint.

When you say "any rational judge would agree that ESPN/ABC has to raise what they are paying ACC schools".....are you talking about a judge in a court of law should ACC sue ESPN/ABC to amend the contract?

Because if you are, IMO....that's dead wrong.

That makes absolutely no sense. The ACC sold their soul for the ACC network. That is why the contract was so long. The ACC dug their own grave. ESPN had to incur SIGNIFICANT cost to get that thing up and running. Plus, that's what a contract is. You can't change your mind because the prices changed.
