If you haven’t watched the Gottlieb special series, “A Place Like This”, on OSU Max, go watch it. Then you’ll know the answer. Why?
What were JMW’s comments? I figure Woody Newton, Kalib, and Chris Harris would transfer or become a GA (Harris), could also see Avery moving on, but think he really needs to change his mindset to a primary ball handler and command an offense. What’s everyone thoughts on the roster for next year? We can only have 12 scholarship players max due to the last of the scholarship sanctions. We could have 13 next and take the hit the following year, but I doubt we do that. Kouma and Asberry are out of eligibility. Everyone else could come back and with the incoming freshman we’d be at 14 scholarships. It’s inevitable we’ll take a transfer or two. Boynton also has said the roster will be fluid. Here’s my guesses.
Harris, gone. His history of injuries are too much and he’s been on scholarship for 4 years, so we’ve done right by him.
Kalib Boone, gone. With his brother being gone, and his struggle this year it just seems like he’s ready to move on.
John Michael Wright, gone. He was solid this year, but I think we could do better. He also made some interesting comments after the last game.
That puts us at 11, so it allows us to add at least one transfer. I could see Cisse or Anderson test the draft waters, but both need to return, so who knows.

JMW just seemed very passive about returning. Said he came to OSU to make the tourney since he never played it in so that will be a deciding factor for him. What were JMW’s comments? I also think we take all 13 this year for just the shear fact that Boynton is on the hot seat. He needs as much fire power on that roster.

I appreciate the recommendation and have made it through the first two episodes. Maybe once I finish season one I’ll have a better understanding of why I’ll know the answer to wanting Doug as our head coach, but thought this would be a good time to ask this question. Why Doug and not someone like Keiton Page? At least Keiton has been in coaching. And he was a great 3-point shooter for OSU and seems to love Stillwater like Doug. By the way, I’m not advocating for Keiton to be the head coach, just using him as an example. If you haven’t watched the Gottlieb special series, “A Place Like This”, on OSU Max, go watch it. I am not a former basketball player, coach or anything even close, so admittedly I don’t know what makes a good coach. But I don’t understand why some of our fanbase thinks it would be a good idea to hire a guy that doesn’t coach for a living to become our head coach. With that being said, if given the chance, Doug might be one of the greatest coaches ever.
I don’t think the majority of the people on here that wants a coaching change would be excited for our AD to hire a guy that’s never coached at the college level, assistant or otherwise, to take over our program. Especially after we have been down as long as we have. But just because Doug played here and could pass the ball really well he is qualified to coach? To me, he is a media personality and seems to do a good job at that. But I wouldn’t be excited if we hired him as our coach. I would support him, since I support anyone that wants to be at OSU, but I just wouldn’t think it would be the best hire.
Like I said, I could be wrong but I just wanted to get a different opinion out there for discussion.
Go Pokes!
Not a rumor anymore:Rumor has it Max Abmas of Oral Roberts is in the portal.
If I were Boynton, I'd go all-in and do everything possible to land Max. But, Boynton won't recruit him. Boynton doesn't recruit offense.. only defense. That's why his teams, not including the Cunningham year, couldn't beat my granny in a game of horse. Not a rumor anymore:
If I had a dollar for every time I heard about the next great incoming class, I'd have about $6 or $7. If I had a dollar for every time I heard that his next class was make or break, I'd have about $3.If I were Boynton, I'd go all-in and do everything possible to land Max. Ill be honest.. I can't wait until Boynton is out of Stillwater. He's a damn good guy, and there's no way to dispute that. But, it's clear it's not working out.
Having said that, he has a helluva good class coming in. That incoming class will make or break Boynton's tenure. I hope Boynton doesn't have to be fired. I hope the incoming class saves his job.
Believe me.. I WANT to support Boynton. I want his tenure to find success. I want him to be one of the best OSU HC's of all-time. I just don't think that's gonna happen. Hopefully I'm wrong. I don't think anyone wants him to fail. It's just... It's extremely difficult trying to support the guy. It's a shame his tenure is sitting at .500 and below .500 in conference play.
Boynton will more than likely take all 13 this next year, especially with being on the hot seat right now. That being said, I would not be surprised if the following move on:Can someone help me with the math on this? Teams are allowed 13 scholarship players. The sanctions were to reduce by 3 over the three years starting last season. This article says we had 11 on scholarship for the season that just ended, so 2 reductions have already been taken. We still have to reduce by one either this year or next year. Assuming we get it done this year, we have 12 scholarship to give.
So the math is that we had 11 players on scholarship, 2 are out of eligibility (Asbury and Kouma), so that's 9 on the roster with remaining eligibility. We have five high schoolers signed, so that's 14. Meaning we need at least one player to transfer out. If two players transfer out, we can either take from the portal or let it be the last sanction. If more than two transfer out, we have flexibility to add a portal player and possibly get the sanction taken care of.
From what I can tell, Harris and Boone seem likely to leave. The next two possiblities sem to be Newton and Qion who played a lot but didn't really find a key role. If all four transfer, we can sign 3 from the portal and still get the final sanction out of the way.
Of course, something will happen to where players we want to keep transfer out, like Anderson, Cisse, or Smith. I'd like to think that Cisse and Smith having already transferred are willing to give it another season, but who knows these days.
BTW I hate considering Boone a likely transfer. When he's good, he's so fun to watch. But you can't just disappear for the final month of the season. Something is up with him and we need more reliability. If Cisee and Smith stay and we bring in the big guys from high school, I think we're good on size. Just need one of them to score more consistently inside.
