2023 Basketball Offseason

Would love to keep him but he was part of our jump shooting problem. Wright can be a reliable and improved PG and shoots the three a lot better. Honestly the only one I’d be devastated to lose is Cisse.

I won't be devastated to lose anyone because my expectations are so low for men's bball anyway.

What’s going on at Baylor? By my count they have 6-7 players leaving via draft or Portal?

Its called college athletics. This is the new normal. And its stupid...
Not sustainable IMO and I would think it will lead to changes. Do not count on the NCAA lead the effort though seeing as how their lack of any sort of effective guidelines put the sport in this situation to begin with

No comment on his attitude, etc, but he blew up mid season and gave me hope then disappeared. Talent isn’t enough without some modicum of consistency, especially when it matters. No ill will, but happy to see him move on.

I’m not the only one who thinks Kalib in the portal is good news right? Dude is streaky and has a terrible attitude. Need to use his scholarship to find a shooter/PG.
He and Boynton did not mesh in the least bit. So happy to see that roller coaster come to an end. He was very talented I won’t deny that. Just couldn’t put it all together for some reason. Just an odd situation.

Have we ever had a real leader on the court during Boyntons tenure? You could say Cade sure that’s obvious but the only other one I can really think of is Ice. I thought the 2019 class was gonna be that. Boone brothers, Avery, Chris Harris at the time seemed like they were gonna be a great core of leaders later on but sadly that didn’t happen.

I wonder if there is a common denominator?

I wouldn't even count Cade in that role.

To answer your question, no we have not had a leader. We have not had a true Alpha. That comes from the top down, no identity, no system we believe in and recruit to, no leadership. All of that I expected early in his tenure because of the situation, now I no longer have any grace to give.

He made the comment after we got pounded by UCONN, (the gap between them and us is staggering) "they have all the pieces/makings of a National Championship team." Guess what? He was right so he clearly knows what it takes he just can't build it apparently.

For some reason it appears he struggles w converting to program building. And what’s so frustrating is that most people see pieces of what’s wrong.

The guys sitting next to him have to see this. Listening to John Holcomb on the radio broadcast of games you can tell he and Dave do. You know they talk about this w people close to the program. You know Chad knows basketball and sees this.

The $3,000,000 question (or $11,500,000 buyout) is why can’t Boynton? Or maybe he does and is just now realizing the players he’s been bringing in just don’t reapond.

To your first paragraph I not only want a leader on the floor but I want to see 5 guys that go out and compete. Man i really don’t like Kelvin but his teams compete their asses off. They put two guys on the block for free throws and they fight for that offensive rebound. They push and fight and get at least 2/game. That translates to points. We sometimes only have 1 guy when we are shooting and most often it’s guards.

We set lazy screens and come over screens even softer. We duck behind screens on defense on a teams best shooter.

Our inbounds plays are disastrous. No screens no movement. 4 guys standing there w an arm in the air and the. When the ball is passed they don’t hold. They separate and let the defender step in.
