Head Coach Steve Lutz

Channel 9 in OKC said tonight that Small has now entered portal.
Well that's unfortunate, he would likely play a huge role next season.

Doesn't someone on here have a roster/scholarship tracker spreadsheet? Where is that with updates on who is in the portal whether officially out or not?

Lutz's record/info as a head coach. Attached Boynton's stats as well for comparison. Overall, I am whelmed but am hoping to be pleasantly surprised with good results from the Pokes under his tenure.

Lutz won 20 games in three of three seasons. Boynton won 20 games in 3 of 7 seasons. That speaks volumes considering where Lutz’s teams were before he got there.

Volumes to you (and others, of course). Like I said, I hope to be proven wrong. Much more worrisome to me are the offensive and defensive efficiency numbers. Big jump in year two at T$MCC, so I'm looking on the bright side of that being a good sign.

The hope is that he has an identity and will recruit and coach to it, not a slogan like #letswork. I never heard HCMB talk about what his vision was for the program. Lutz wants to play lock down man to man and make everything difficult on the opponent and then he wants to run. Same that Underwood did actually. Give me that kind of ball all day everyday, now he just has to have players.

I hope so. I just don't see it in the numbers as of yet. While I'm not purely analytically driven, the numbers are a good start w/o any other information.

To be fair, underwood's defense was historically bad (from an OSU perspective). And that includes a big turnaround later in the year on the defensive side of the ball. My recollection was that one of the assistant coaches (Boynton?) finally got through to him about changing up what we were doing on D and it worked like gangbusters, until we regressed in the last four games. That said, I'd take it back in a heartbeat for one of his top 10 offenses.

It certainly didn’t start out well but personnel was an issue. We couldn’t play on the line and up the line with that group. Should have been able to but they didn’t buy into that kind of defense. That’s always the challenge with man 2 man. All 5 on the floor have to buy in. But like you said, I want to score. I hate watching Virginia play. Find a mix of both.

A mix of both is best, and we dang sure need some offense after the anemic and directionless last several years we've suffered through. But I wouldn't mind a UVA-esque defense. Watching them play is lame, but if it were our own team I'd enjoy it. Think of football in the 2021 season. Hate watching defensive battles between other teams, but watching our team shut everyone TF down was epic.

I'm in the cautiously optimistic group. Lutz was top 5 for me. He checks the talent evaluator and how to assemble a balanced roster boxes.

He seems to have proven that he can make a roster over-haul and get an NCAA bid at the mid-major level getting players that were not quite NIL/"P6" level.

Now he is going to be with the big boys and has to negotiate the NIL with the Portal and be able to retain players over multiple years.

I think Hinson will be a big help with the NIL issues. He's spent a year on the money side, plus has the experience in putting together a team - understanding the dynamics between teammates, coaching staff, etc. SLutz seems to get the portal, so hopefully it's a good combination.
