Kingfisher Public Schools Settles Federal Civil Abuse Lawsuit for $5 million

How is Kingfisher schools going to come up with $5 million? According to article, KPS is to pay $1.25 million from its general fund within 90 days. The rest of the $3.75 million will be paid over the course of the next 3 years from the school's sinking fund. What a lot of money that won't be going to public education in Kingfisher. The school initially had a settlement offer of $1.5 million but rejected it.

I like football as much as the next guy, but these schools like Kingfisher, Ringling, and others that allow a culture of abuse to thrive in their school systems with a win at all costs attitude deserve what they get. I put them in a similar category to Baylor.

I'm waiting on Superintendent Walters to issue a statement (or video from his car 😉), but I won't hold my breath.

It will be put back on the taxpayers. A judgement has to be paid from the Sinking Fund, which is funded by ad valorem taxes.
